GO ROCKIN' RED FOXES

November 24, 2020: This has certainly been a disappointing year, health-wise. It started off well, but then "something" went terribly wrong. (It was me! LOL) The good news is that if I decide to hibernate like a bear, or if there is a famine, I'll have plenty of extra fuel to see me through. Gotta keep a sense of humor when I can! :D Maybe I'll do a better job with the next season of the BLC, which starts Dec 3rd. I like the idea of being a Winter Warrior!

August 23, 2020: The summer challenge is over, and I didn't do well. Bummer. It's very frustrating to have been doing so well and then to have it be so hard to get back in the game after a setback. But I'm not giving up, I still know what I need to do, and I know I'll get those healthy habits back in place sooner or later. Now it's time to start preparing for the new BLC season - Harvest Your Health! Fall is my favorite season, and summer is my least favorite, so the change in seasons should be a delightful boost to my motivation. I'm looking forward to some walks in the crisp fall air to help break the inertia.:)

May 31, 2020: I am gearing up for the BLC's Sparktastic Summer Slimdown! I didn't do so well for the spring challenge, but only partly because of my (failed) gum graft surgery. I am currently recovering from the second attempt, and praying that I don't have to do it again!! I have gained about 5 pounds since the beginning of the year and my healthy nutrition habits have disappeared somewhere. However, I refuse to quit, and I know I can make the necessary changes and keep on working toward my goals. :)

March 4, 2020: Tomorrow is Day 1 of the BLC Spring Into Fitness Challenge! I was surprised by how well I did last season. I think this season is going to be just as amazing. :) I'm getting closer to my goal weight, so it won't be as easy to drop the pounds. But this is about so much more than weight! I started an arm strength challenge, and have been trying hard to increase my fitness minutes. I want to build some beautiful muscle! I'm still struggling to get to bed on time and I'd like to work my way toward having the same sleep schedule on weekends as I do on week days.

February 15, 2020: Here in South Carolina, spring comes earlier than many parts of the country. But this winter has been pretty mild as well. For the past two weeks it has been in the 70s during the week and only returning to our mild winter temps during the weekend. The spring flowers - hyacinths, daffodils, forsythia, etc - are already blooming. I've been sneezing quite a lot this past week, so I'm keeping a gimlet eye on these pine trees. The amount of pollen they put out can be downright vicious!! But on a cheerier note, the Biggest Loser 2020 Spring Into Fitness Challenge starts the first week of March! I lost 11.5 pounds during the BLC Winter Sleigh Bell Slimdown, and it was so much fun. I'm excited to start the next one! Thankfully these challenges overlap the 5% Challenges, so I always have a little something to keep me motivated, encouraged, and entertained. :) We're already on week 6 of the 2020 Winter 5% Challenge. How does the time fly so quickly?!

January 10, 2020: The 2020 Winter 5% Challenge starts tomorrow! Woohoo! This will be my second 5% Challenge, both times as a Casual Traveler. I can't wait to see what I accomplish this season.

December 26, 2019: We're already 3 weeks down on the Sleigh Bell Slimdown, and I'm doing well! The 2020 Winter 5% Challenge starts January 11th. I'll be ready!! These challenge teams really make this fun and motivating. And I definitely like having the accountability!

December 7th, 2019: I've just been added as a late addition to the Biggest Loser "Sleigh Bell Slimdown" Winter Challenge as an Honorary Rockin' Red Fox! Yippee!

2019 Fall 5% Challenge complete! I didn't meet my goal, but I made 39% of my goal, which is actually better than I expected. LOL This Casual Traveler will be joining every season. Challenges are fun! :D For the winter break I'm joining the Awesome A's to keep my momentum going until the 2020 Winter 5% Challenge starts.


Today is September 9th, 2019. It has been a very long time since I've been on SP. And apparently if you're inactive long enough, they revoke all your Spark Points! I guess I get to start over and watch them climb again. ๐Ÿ˜Š Hello everyone! ๐Ÿ™‚

My Goals:
My goal is to get in better shape overall so that I have more energy, and feel good about my body. I will tone up my muscles, increase my flexibility, and improve my endurance for cardio. I would love to be a runner, but in the past any attempts have failed. I am taking it slow and trying to work my way up to it this time.

I will drastically improve my eating habits and get more fruits and veggies in my diet, more calcium and iron, and reduce the sodium and sugar. I've only realized since tracking my foods on SparkPeople that I also don't get nearly enough protein. So that's one more thing I'll be keeping an eye on.

I'm still working on a program that will work for me.



Personal Information:
My name is Melissa, and I am a 42 year old in South Carolina. I have an adventurous spirit, but am also quite cautious and timid, so I don't get to act on my dreams as often as I'd like. I know being in better shape physically will help me feel more confident about reaching for my dreams, especially since so many of the things on my bucket list are physical in nature. I would LOVE to go to Scotland one day. I like to imagine myself being in fantastic shape and being able to hike both the West Highland Way AND the Great Glen Way.
