I've tried so many times to make a permanent lifestyle change with healthy habits for eating and exercise. I do so well at the beginning, but I think my over-enthusiasm is what does me in. I can't maintain that level of excitement and when it starts to wane I'm stuck feeling unmotivated and end up slacking off slowly but surely until I wake up one morning, pounds heavier, and wondering exactly when my new healthy lifestyle stopped and my lazy, unhealthy lifestyle resumed.

I do not want this to be another one of those failures! (I WILL NOT let this be another failure!) I learn something new each time, and THIS TIME I'm going to start slow, pull myself back a bit every time I find myself getting a little manic about things, and finally make this a PERMANENT lifestyle!

I've also learned that exercise (or lack thereof) is not my biggest weakness. It's food. Oh, food, how I love you! One day I'd like to tackle my sugar addiction, but that's a little into the future for now. I'll have to shore up my defenses some before I can conquer that beast! :)

My Goals:
My goal is to get in better shape overall so that I have more energy, get my borderline high cholesterol in check, and feel good about my body. I will tone up my muscles, increase my flexibility, and improve my endurance for cardio. I would love to be a runner, but in the past any attempts have failed. I am taking it slow and trying to work my way up to it this time.

I will drastically improve my eating habits and get more fruits and veggies in my diet, more calcium and iron, and reduce the sodium, sugar, and fat. I've only realized since tracking my foods on SparkPeople that I also don't get nearly enough protein. So that's one more thing I'll be keeping an eye on.

My Program:
I'm still working on a program that will work for me. I work two jobs and only get one day off every 2 weeks, so it will need to be something very flexible and forgiving.

Personal Information:
My name is Melissa, and I am a 35 year old in South Carolina. I have an adventurous spirit, but am also quite cautious and timid, so I don't get to act on my dreams as often as I'd like. I know being in better shape physically will help me feel more confident about reaching for my dreams, especially since so many of the things on my bucket list are physical in nature. I would LOVE to go to Scotland one day. I like to imagine myself being in fantastic shape and being able to hike both the West Highland Way AND the Great Glen Way.
