2008 Running Challenges:

June 28, 2008: "Graduation" from beginning running class by running first 5K. Completed in 39 minutes. Started, completed, finished!! Onward and upward from here!!!

July 12, 2008: 5K in 1st official event (Women's Distance Festival--Annapolis). FINISHED 36 MINUTES! Not bad for an over-50 new runner pug grandma!!!

July 26, 2008: 2d 5K (Crystal City Twilighter) w/speed demon daughter which means I can go faster too, right??? FINISHED 35 MINUTES!!!

October 5, 2008: Army 10-miler. I'm a volunteer at the finish line (not ready to run 10 miles yet), but I wanted to be there for all my peeps running it! Good luck everyone. I'm as excited about going as a volunteer as I would be going to run it. Next year---running it, for sure!!

October 26, 2008: Marine Corps Marathon 10K starts at the Pentagon. Awesome run....70 minutes!

Weight Watcher CELEBRATIONs:

June 21, 2008: Met & surpassed 10% goal in WW!!
Next WW goal is another 10%!

July 27, 2008: Surpassed the 25 pound lost, never to be found again, mark.

August 20, 2008: Surpassed 30 pounds!!

Change is not merely necessary to life. It is life.

What a wonderful tool SparkPeople is with so many teams, leaders, and members to learn from, to be inspired by, and to gain motivation from. The successes alone are enough to keep me going!! Our collective experiences, support, and sharing are invaluable in this journey.

As you maybe could tell from my photos, I am a pug lover and have been raising and rescuing them (and other breeds too) for the past 3 years. They are the best little guys ever and are so entertaining. We go on lots of long walks, no matter what the weather!

Most pugs don't THINK they are human; they KNOW they are!!

My Goals:
My goal is to become a lifetime weight watcher member, which means I will have achieved my goal weight and maintained it. My second goal (updated) is to run and complete a 10K race. I love being able to say I'm a runner---OK, I have to go run now...LOL!!

My Program:
I use the SP nutrition tracker because I eat vegetarian, almost vegan, and like to track my protein. I started WW meetings in April 2008, and am continuing with that, but need all the tools and support I can find, so glad to be using this venue as well. I mix it up a lot by doing the up day / down day concept and am transitioning to a clean diet trying to be as green and organic as possible in my life.

I love to read and always have dozens of books checked out of the library (my free bookstore--I love it) and generally have several reads going at the same time.
I also serve as a volunteer and foster mom with the homeless animal rescue team.
