Weight has always been a struggle for me.I miss how fit I was when I was in the military and very active. I am tired of yo-yo dieting and the gain/ loss game and want to make lifestyle changes that stick. I found this web site about two years back and have visited but never really participated..but I'm here now.
At my heaviest I was about 280lbs in around 2001 when I graduated LPN school. I started a low carb diet and got down to about 200lb, only to regain most of it when I went back to school for my RN.. (can you say stress related?) I bulked up to about 265 by summer of 2008. By Spring 2009 I was down again to the magic 200. I fell in love which was totally non stressful- but I stopped going to the gym- and by Feb2010 I had crept up to about 235.
I realize a few things from this roller coaster: I can't maintain a restrictive diet. The second I stop eating no carb, no fat etc. etc. I start gaining weight back. Next- I have to exercise. I have no choice. 3rd- that working nights has screwed with my metabolism and along with causing me to eat unhealthy.
I started Feb. 1st with a routine I think I can maintain. It consists of counting cal's on the days I work: and keeping it at around 12-1400. Going to the gym atleast 3 times a week but not setting myself up with a fixed schedule. I have to be flexible because my schedule and my life don't run on an exact clock. And allowing myself to still go to dinner, have drinks within reason on my off days. This is something i can do forever. Is the weight coming off as quickly as it was with Atkin's? Not at all. But I feel the healthiest I've felt in a long time and feel I've found the compromise that can work for me, that I can maintain. My weight loss has slowed this month, so I'm upping the gym to 5 times a week to see if I can jump start it again.

I want to be a positive role model to my beautiful 13 year old daughter, and be healthy and beautiful for the wonderful, ,supportive man that loved me as much at 200lbs as he did 235. Can't wait til he gets to love me at my goal weight!

***********Back on track mid Jan 2012 after about a 30lb weight gain from my October wedding. Woops!! Back down some and beginning to run! And run I will, hopefully, finally to a healthy weight. Sick of this roller-coaster! Much love to my new supportive husband who is my rock and loves me despite my flaws. Back on track, back in school, writing again, happy- working on the health portion one day at a time.

My goal is to be a healthy role model not only for my patients but for my daughter.

My Program:
Increase lifting and cardio. Cut out fast food and pointless snacking. Cut out the drinking except for special occasions- and still allow myself a splurge day once and awhile to keep it real.
