Hi, I'm Amber!

Back in March 2008 I decided to lose 85 pounds (230 to 145). I'm still working on it... with life, there have been highs and lows, losses and gains. I've so far managed to lose 65 of the 85 pounds and keep it off for 5 years. The last 35 have been a real struggle though! I've been between 170-185 for about 2 years now. I'd really love to actually make it down to my goal weight before trying to start a family.

I've struggled with weight my whole life, and while I'd like to say it's gotten easier, it pretty much stays the same. I get discouraged sometimes... but I'll get there in the end!

I'm 30 now, and working in schools in London. Pubs are a big thing here, and fish n chips! My job is really stressful and there is nothing I'd rather do at the end of the day than have a pint of beer and a big basket of chips! So that's my daily challenge- to find non-food ways to de-stress

My 10% Goals:

I subscribe to the 10% philosophy. Thinking in terms of "85 pounds to lose" is dizzyingly overwhelming! Research shows that losing 10% body weight (for overweight and obese people) has significant health benefits. AND, mentally it's a lot easier to see the finish line, and stick with it. What I do is shoot for 10% loss, and when I reach it, I reevaluate and start on the next 10%.

I've currently (as of September 2013) lost 10% of my body weight 3 times (for a total of 27% lost).

10% of 230 is 23 pounds. Goal weight of 207. ACHIEVED

10% of 207 is 21 pounds. Goal weight of 186. ACHIEVED

10% of 186 is 19 pounds. Goal weight of 167. ACHIEVED

10% of 167 is 17 pounds. Goal weight of 150.

2013 Goals:

170 by Independence Day ACHIEVED

165 by August MISSED... (4 pounds over!)

145 by Christmas
