2018 is did that happen??? :) My goal this year is deceptively simple..lose one pound a week. That should be feasible..and yet it hasn't happened consistently in all the years that I've been on spark/fitbit/etc. I've been thinking a lot about this...consistency is my major issue along with a love of food and wine. I need to keep great food and wine in my life but in moderation. Consistency and moderation....for me...those are the key words About me: I'm 43 and I've struggled with my weight since I was in middle school...I had a few "normal weight" years in my 20s but school and work (as well as medications to treat migraines and seasonal depression) conspired against me and I've gained crazy amounts of weight in just a few years. Common story....and I'm sick of it! My first major goal is to get back under 200#. The second is another 25# to get to the weight I was when I started dating the super guy who is now my husband. Third goal is to get to "normal weight" loosely based on BMI--for me that is under 150lbs. If I lose ONE pound a week that will take me two years! Slow is ok, I can live with that, but I need to be consistent and keep nudging that #$%$ scale DOWN! The last few years have been a major derailment for me in terms of maintaining or losing weight. I tore my gastroc in the summer of 2013 which meant no half marathon...and the crutches were brutal. I have had a series of miscarriages which got me further off track in terms of mood/motivation/energy. Then I had a very painful sciatic injury that makes it hard to walk/stand much less exercise. In the last year my major issue is bilateral horrible Achilles tendinopatht...i can walk with minimal pain but no jogging etc. I've had enough of this....I need to reset my whole frame of mind!

My Goals:
to be smaller...'nuff said.
250: Start 12/13/16
245: 12/30/16
240: 1/21/16
235 been dancing near this for weeks....sigh...

My Program:
Exercise. Log food. Don't eat so much. Even more important...don't DRINK so much....stupid calories.

I'm trying some thing new this time around---my husband and I love to cook and enjoy great dinners each night. So, this time around I'm trying not eating much during the day unless legit really hungry and saving my calories for dinner. I'm surprised but it's actually working out pretty well---and I'm not gnawing off chair legs or anything during the day. Some of it is really mind over matter....

Personal Information:
I am eating and procrastinating. Some other stuff too...but not so much with the willpower and decreasing caloric intake!

Other Information:
I find it important to weigh in almost every day. The number isn't important...but the trends are. It doesn't "wreck" my day to see the number go up, but it does prompt reflection about whether I need to do more or if it is "just one of those things". It drives me crazy when people say "throw away the scale". To me that is dumb. The number doesn't define you any more than a tape measure does or the fit of your jeans. WE all use tools to measure our progress. The scale is one way to measure things...not the only way, sometimes not the best way....but it adds to the picture.

I have fitbit scale that automatically uploads to my fitbit site--and then bounces to sparkpeople. For me, I know that there are fluctuations each day--sometimes a pound or two depending on the time of the month!! I'm tracking both Friday weights (absolute number) and the weekly average weight (fitbit helps with this). They may not both move at the same time...but the overall trend is what matters!

YAY!! Go you, indeed! Your feed is now almost all back. Now you have the same glitch that DebVNE has. It's open, but the latest feed cannot be commented on. That's on the SP side of things, but other than that, you're good to go.

Glad that you prayed to the "hormone gods" and they granted your request. It never hurts.

You're doing great taking care of you, and finding the balance that works for you. Send over the recipe please.

    Keep on trucking!

AnnieOnLI and I checked her feed once. If you want me to work with you on that, I'm happy to. Right now (at least when I checked it), I could only hit like, but not comment as it was set to private. I'm OK with that, of course, if that is your preference.

With your sudden weight gain, it surely sounded hormonal. The resting heart rate thing is interesting. Never heard of anything like that before.

Don't even get me started with the politics of Medicine. I abhor it. To quote from "Gentle Vengeance" by Charles LeBaron [older med student who went to Harvard], "What IS it that takes nice boys and girls, puts them into a hamburger machine, and makes them come out the way they do?" Agreed. The system will beat you if you let it. My BFF's son refused to go into Medicine, because he hated the people that populate it. Totally get that.

I pray that you can navigate the new political waters you find yourself in. It's a tough row to hoe.

    All the best,

Your choice, of course, but your feed is set to private right now. Just a question of resetting the prefernces to open it.

Yay on the stroke save!! That's huge.

Forget the }#%^ ing scale. You know better.

I can only click "like" on your feed. When I started to write a comment in your feed, it blocked me noting it is "private", so here's where I'll put what I was going to say:

    (1) FIFTY miles this week! Way to go! Stop being so hard on yourself. If you indulge, you correct. Keep in mind this is for the long haul, and you have seen that you are not perfect (I'm less perfect than you, so there! =Hmph!=), so what?

    (2) Trying to get back in the exercise rhythm for myself (for whom can we do this, if not for us?). Once I have it again, it becomes automatic: Two days strength training, three days cardio, one day swim. Now that my membership to the Y is free there really aren't any more excuses, are there?

    (3) Remember Pogo: "We have met the enemy and he is us." No truer words were ever spoken.

    (4) You're doing great. Stop picking on you. You have to listen to your elders (me!), so just stop. Considering where you are in general, anything you put your mind to, you KNOW (you just know) that you can accomplish. So..................

(channeling my mother) "Don't plan. Do."

    Got it? Good.

    Test next Friday. emoticon

So, no mini-vacations for you. Are you planning to move to a place that respects you more?

It's so hard when they suck the lifeforce out of you. I totally get it. I hope things get better for you soon.
