Hi, I recently turned 40 and to date have lost 40 pounds since March of this year. I am married with 2 step-children who live with us. They have been the major challenge in my life. They came to live with us more than 3 years ago and nothing has been the same. I had been doing well before they came to live with us, but once they arrived, my discipline as far as food and exercise went out the window. My life focus was on surviving this hurdle in my life. I began to eat "kid" food, pizza, mac and cheese, anything quick and easy. The kids are teens and somewhat picky about what they eat. I figured it was easier to make one meal than two, and I began gaining weight. I gained about 25 pounds in 3 years.
In March I was approved to take part in a weight loss study with a research company here. I began taking a new medication and had been doing very well for about 4 months. The summer was very stressful with the kids, and I think I medicated myself, to an extent, with food. I didn't gain any weight until the last month when I gained 5 pounds. This was a wake-up call for me. I go to my next research appointment next week and will see if I have lost anything. The study does not rely solely on the medication, but couples it with education, exercise, and portion control. I have gotten back on track in the past month and am doing better.
My husband is supportive, but has his own weight issues and we have become eating buddies. It is hard to always make good choices together. I do better during the day when I am at work than evenings we are home together. We are trying together.

I have been struggling with my weight for a good portion of my life. My husband is also heavy and I am having a hard time motivating him. He is wonderful when it comes to putting it off. This may be harder than it has to be unless he climbs on board.
