Several years ago (3/07, amazing how time flies!), I realized I was getting a little chunky. After an incident involving 4 lbs of jellybeans, I knew I had a SERIOUS problem with sugar. I cut out nearly all carbohydrates from my diet for 7 months, lost ~25 lbs and felt great.

After a year of eating little but wheat bran and kale, I was down to the lowest I have ever weighed in my adult life (114 lbs), and to be honest looked pretty sickly. Admitting that I would never be able to 'lose' my diet resistant belly fat, I decided that I looked 10x better at 118-120, so I let myself relax some. I have since discovered that the secret to having a toned tummy is consistency in diet and exercise, not starving myself.

Complicating matters slightly, food is a major part of my life, even when I'm not eating it. I work in flavor development, exposing me to all sorts of amazingly unhealthy 'foods' an a daily basis. Making your calories work out when you've consumed hundreds of calories of oil in taste trials or fighting cravings after a tablespoon of HFCS just makes things a bit more interesting. I completed my M.S. in food science in January '09, something I am quite proud of.

My Goals:
Now that I'm planning my wedding, I have a nicely concrete goal and target date to aim for!

I'm hoping to work off the 5-10 lbs of fluff I've put on over the summer, and get toned and fit to look and feel great for my wedding day!

My Program:
Back on the stick!

I eat a low carb/high fat diet of green vegetables, meats, eggs, yogurt, cheese, and of course plenty of olive oil and butter!

Trying to start running again, after a summer off. No races planned besides a Thanksgiving 5k, but I hope to be comfortable running 5 miles at a stretch by the end of the year.

Personal Information:
Just a girl from Jersey, making the world a little tastier. Yes, I work around food. Yes I have to taste it. Yes it can be horribly tempting. Upside is I have ZERO desire to eat at chain restaurants anymore.

Something of a loner by nature, I make every effort possible to do things by myself if possible, even if that makes it 10x more difficult.

Other Information:
I am the least photogenic person on earth, so the pictures really don't do me justice.

I have a wicked sweet tooth, and will devour any quantity of jellybeans left unattended in my presence. When I'm being good, blueberries fill the void :-)

    I can totally relate to your working around food all day. I develop and manage candy brands! Some days I have to taste lots of sugar-sanded licorice or 10 different flavors of lollipops, or just recently, many flavors of super-sour spray candy! I just try to only taste what is necessary and drink water afterwards to kick the sugar craving. When I get a sugar craving, I try to "change" the flavor in my mouth with cinnamon or spearmint gum. Looks like you've done great. Good work!

    Just wanted to stop by and tell you that you look terrific! Great job on getting to your GW. My goal is 115 also, and I just CANNOT seem to get those last 5 pounds gone! Your story inspired me to believe that it CAN be done. Hope you're having a good week -- take care!

    Wow! your goals are so similar to my own. I am trying to go from 148 to 115. And so far so good. I am tracking everything that I am eating and all my activities. What was the biggest challenge for you?

    Hi Jill,

    I notice you are from NJ. I am a southern Jersey girl who is also in the Nutrition field. I do have to say Food Science was my least favorite Nutrition related class but I had an instructor who couldn't pronounce 75% of the words and pretty much read us the book so I think that is why. What do you plan on doing with your field?
