Hi! I wasn't sure that you would be back to the Living Low Carb forum, and your last comment there was about having slightly (elevated, I assume) cholesterol levels.

The results for women and men regarding cholesterol and heart disease are VERY different. It should come as no surprise that, even after all these years, there's a tendency in medicine to try and treat female patients the same way they that they treat male patients. But, just as our normal overall bodyfat percentage MUST be higher than a man's to be healthy, our cholesterol levels should be as well.

    Here's a link to a summary article:

    http://www.naturalnews.com/033975_high_c
    holesterol_heart_attacks.html

and more importantly, look at this conclusion from an article referenced on PubMed:

CONCLUSION: Our study provides an updated epidemiological indication of possible errors in the CVD risk algorithms of many clinical guidelines. If our findings are generalizable, clinical and public health recommendations regarding the 'dangers' of cholesterol should be revised. This is especially true for women, for whom moderately elevated cholesterol (by current standards) may prove to be not only harmless but even beneficial.

Here's a link to that article as well.

    http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21951
    982

Low carb DOES, however, lower one of the truly critical risk markers for heart disease, namely, triglycerides. Triglycerides are made from dietary sugar and starch, NOT from dietary fat.

I hope you're getting the general idea from my long-winded comment here that low-carb is NOT a weight loss plan. It is a healthy eating plan with weight loss as a side effect.
