Do you want to soar to new heights?
Remember that kites only fly against the wind.

"Life is much like flying a kite. You never know what direction the wind is going to blow, or how many twists and turns there will be before the flight is over!" ~ Eric T. Paulsen

Flying a kite is indeed a challenge. To get the kite aloft, you must run, against the wind, until the wind catches the kite and lifts it up. Then you must quickly, and deftly, let the string out at just the right speed to give the kite exactly the freedom it needs to get it sufficiently aloft, where it can once again glide along as it is intended to fly, and to keep the string and that kite "in the sweet spot" where all the conditions that are necessary to keep that kite flying are working together in balance.

It constantly demands your attention, and if you get distracted or become complacent, that kite will come dive-bombing down toward the Earth and slam head-on into the ground! So it is in our daily life, and in pursuit of our goals. Much like the wind, life envelops us in its day to day routine, and we unconsciously move from this to that without too much thought.

So it is with our setting our personal goals and working toward meeting them.
We start out enthusiastically running, make adjustments as needed to get things up and running more smoothly.
However, if we were to take a step back and look at things from the viewpoint of an objective observer, we'd most likely see ourselves “gliding along" - while unconsciously holding back, sitting back on our heels, reluctant to let out a little more of our string as we wait for the "perfect conditions" or “just the right moment” to pursue a strong desire, a dream, or to simply try something new. We tether ourselves in the comfort zone of complacency. Then as soon as we meet with a "gusty" obstacle, we falter and fall just as the kite does.

This is when we have to be remember to be like the kite. They fly AGAINST THE WIND. The wind hitting them is the very thing that enables them stay aloft. A kite flies higher in a strong, adverse wind than it does in a gentle breeze. In fact, if you've ever flown a kite, it is much easier to get it aloft with a strong steady wind, whereas in a gentle breeze it will not reach enough height- no matter how fast you run - to get aloft up into the flow of the wind current to fly as it should.

We need to remember to embrace the strong, gusty wind in our lives.
We also need to be present and attentive in our day to day choices and actions so that we might be better able to anticipate and appreciate the sharp and unexpected twists, turns, and the random gut-wrenching dives that are bound to happen. Doing this will help us to attain the height we need to stay aloft, and maintain the momentum we need to make the necessary adjustments with the changes in the wind's direction and speed, and keep ourselves from nose-diving into the ground.

A kite flies higher in a strong, adverse wind. It is the friction of the wind that keeps it high and out of danger of crashing into the ground. Don't allow yourself to get discouraged when you're facing a strong, gusty head wind in your day, or on your path toward your goal.

Embrace the wind just as the kite does.
Lean into it, breathe deeply, center yourself and your thoughts, evaluate your position, let out a little more string, make the necessary adjustments, and let the wind lift and carry you higher than you've ever been before.

Soar to new heights on the wind of your goals and dreams!

"Today is unique! It has never occurred before and it will never be repeated.
At midnight it will end, quietly, suddenly, totally. Forever.
But the hours between now and then are opportunities with eternal possibilities."

"If I had to select one quality, one personal characteristic that I regard as being most highly correlated with success, whatever the field, I would pick the trait of persistence. Determination. The will to endure to the end, to get knocked down seventy times and get up off the floor saying. "Here comes number seventy-one!"
