Hi there! I've been with SparkPeople since November 2010. I've really been enjoying all the resources here, and they have contributed to my success, though in May 2011 I slowed down on my exercise. I was diagnosed with diabetes in 2014. This was not a surprise - my grandmother, mother, father, and sister are/were all diabetic. I was doing ok with it initially but I'd let my role as my mom's main caretaker get in the way, so my numbers crept up.

I recommitted in a big way to doing things more healthfully. As of 12/31/2016, I've gone to the gym daily. I tracked food and fitness daily for all of 2017 and am working to continue the habit in 2018.
For the first seven months or so of 2017, I had twice a week sessions with a personal trainer, which helped give me a solid exercise habit as well as ideas for varying my workout. I continue to post progress on Facebook, though not as frequently as before. I've been rewarded with lower morning blood sugar numbers and slow but sure weight loss. Spark also has tons of resources to help with this journey, so I have redoubled my efforts to actually use them to learn about and help my fight against diabetes. I know i want to be healthier and more active than my aging mother is at 83. I rejoined Weight Watchers at Work in January 2018 to add accountability, as I had gotten lazy in my food consumption and tracking.

As some of my pictures will note, I also have a hobby in medieval recreation, so I dress up in pretty clothes and keep busy with that hobby frequently throughout the year. I also enjoy singing with a local chorus and a quartet for the Sweet Adelines organization (a barbershop group for women). Looking forward to much success here and to making many new SparkFriends.

Wanting to start by setting achieveable goals, I am starting small:

1. Be active at least 10 minutes per day

2. Reduce empty calorie intake

3. Drink 8 cups of water daily

My Program:
I am tracking everything I'm eating.

I am performing intentional exercise every day.

I am drinking at least 8 glasses of water daily.

I am taking at least a 20 minute walk each day.
