I am 55 and time to get in shape and off the meds. UPDATE. It has been 1 and half years since my retirement and I am doing great. I had lost 39 pounds and gained back 16 pounds. I reset my weight loss ticker in January and have lost 8 pounds since then. I have added strength training to my work outs and can feel the difference. The only med I take is metformin and I hope to get off that soon. My A1C is now at 5.3. It was nice to retire, but I am actively pursing part time employment. My goal is to stay on track and live another 30 or more years.
FIVE YEARS LATER
I just read this post and I am kind of sad
I did find part time employment with a job I really love. At first I would exercise when I got home. I kept eating healthy. But I gradually exercised less and would indulge in a treat or two. So here it is 5 years later and I have gained 12 pounds. My A1C has gone to 6. I have a Drs appt Monday and I don’t think the news will be good So it’s back to some serious exercising and tracking all my food!
Now I am in the Sensational Sixties.
I have been working part-time29 hours) per week. Still love the job with no intentions of quitting. I have gained 20 pounds since that time. My A1C is up from 5.5 to 6.5 and I am still on Metformin. I have been struggling with my blood sugar levels in the morning of about 150. I have come to the conclusion that you have to stick to the proper amount of calories per day to get your numbers down. Eating less than the recommended amount of carbs also helps. I have been exercising on my days off by riding my stationary bike at a vigorous pace and feel GREAT. But I have to be mindful of my knees and not overdo it. So I have come back to using Spark People to get my weight and A1C down. I think that if you have a goal that you look at everyday it keeps you going. Just like when I am on my bike, I have to keep looking at my speed so I don't slow down.

My goal is to lose 50 more pounds and to be physically fit by exercising a minimum of 5 days a week. I will devote more time to my self improvement goals.


My Program:
My exercise time will be any time I find. I will record every bite that goes into my mouth.



Personal Information:
I am from Schoolcraft, Michigan. I recently retired from a job where I monitored things and did a lot of sitting. I worked a lot of night time overtime. My kids are going to college at Adrian and Western and I have more time than ever to devote to my health goals.


Other Information:
I love to read books and magazines. I enjoy reading web sites that deal with health and nutrition. I bought a bike this summer and love riding around the country side,
