I have tried low-fat, low-carb, raw and countless other diets. They work (or don't work) but nothing seemed to be the key to lasting success. One diet just contradicts the other and it becomes difficult to decide what it is I need to do. I eat (and feed my family - husband and 3 kids) organic when possible. We stay away from fast-food, artificial ingredients and preservatives.

Once I had a nutritionist tell me, "It seems you are doing everything right - I don't know how to help you." Of course, this was during the time that low-fat and high fiber were the way to eat (no attention to calories). It was during this time that I was exercising hours a week as well.

I cannot give up. I am the "bread winner" in the family and the parent who is the school volunteer, scout leader, etc. I am not sick - yet -but what would my family do without me? It's time to figure out the magic.

Spark People allowed me to focus on calories - which I am finding much easier than "points." I spent the first few days eating the way I always have (very healthy) and seeing what I came up with at the end of the day. Here is what I discovered - TOO MANY CALORIES!!! I really had no idea.

It took me three days to figure out how I could keep withing the range. I feel like I am actually LEARNING - something that will actually make a lasting change.

Wish me luck as I work toward my goals. I look forward to this journey.
