As the deer pants after the water brook, so pants my soul after Thee, O God.

I joined SparkPeople on January 15, 2018, because of my last mammogram on August 29, 2017. It became my wake-up call to get serious about my health. After the mammogram, that afternoon and evening, I went to an online site, and there found a link to a site for healthy eating to fight the risk of cancer. I read that site thoroughly, and by the next day, I knew what I felt I knew I had to do. I went 95% vegan/vegetarian with my lifestyle. It was not a diet for me, but my journey for health.

On September 5, I received a call that said the spot in my breast was not cancer, but the doctor said I was to get back in there if I had any changes, and I was to return for another mammogram in 6 months. My mother had breast cancer, and that last mammogram told me to get serious about my own health.

As of August 30, 2017 I began cutting meat completely out of my diet. I have tuna fish patties occasionally, a biscuit or cornbread occasionally, no desserts, no sweets, no soft drinks, no sugar added to foods, and if adding any sugar, only occasionally, a dab of butter once a day. I have whole grain at least 6 days a week, with a plateful of fruits and nuts with black coffee or a hot cup of black tea and a cup of plant based milk for breakfast (As of now I am having an unsweetened almond milk. Sometimes I may choose soy, rice or coconut milk, whichever is the best price. In the past I have drank all of these milks each one time or another).

My second and last meal of the day is a plateful of vegetables, with a side plateful of fruit and nuts. I am working on more protein with this meal, and I need to work in another whole grain. I also have another cup of my milk with this meal, a cup of hot tea or black coffee. I use extra virgin olive oil, minced garlic, parsley, Italian seasonings (oregano, thyme, marjoram, sage and rosemary) in the preparation of my vegetables. Throughout the afternoon, I will snack on nuts. I have lost down to my goal weight for my 5'2" body frame at 119,

I continue to eat the way I have chosen, and I went online looking for support, and finally discovered SparkPeople. I had come across this site years ago, but soon forgot about it.

And here #1. I found the support of tweaking this way of eating to make sure we get the healthy nutrients that our body needs,

#2. the many choices of exercise to keep our bodies active,

#3. and the encouragement and support we need to not only lose weight,

#4. but we can stay here for the support and encouragement we need to maintain our new goal weight in our life's journey for the health of our bodies.

Personal Information:
About my personal life: I married my childhood sweetheart after graduating from high school, and as of 2018, we have been married 54 years. We have 3 daughters, and we are grandparents, and now great-grandparents. For 23 years we took care of our elderly parents in our home. One by one they have all gone to our heavenly home, and today in my empty time, I paint with acrylics, oils and watercolors. The deer at water brook is a watercolor painting, and Jesus with Disciple and Creation of Heaven and Earth are acrylic paintings. Lonely Isle above is my first painting, and it was with oils 17+ years ago.
