My first grandchild was born on 7/8/11 at 2:45 p.m. Pacific Time. I am thrilled. I was on my way to Rickett's Glen Park near Wilkes Barre, PA when I received the news. I spent the weekend there and hiked down the rigorous Falls Trail .... 11 or so waterfalls on the way down and another 11 or so waterfalls on the way back up on a Y shaped trail. It was a challenge and I met it (not without some fear and complaining but neverthe less ...)

I am now only six lbs above the upper range of normal weight for my height. I plan to lose another twenty after that and that will put me in the lower middle of a healthy weight.

My Goals:
*Find a job. I would apply this quote to this goal:

“Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the judgment that something else is more important than fear.”

*Give up the half and half except for special events.

*Give up the negative thinking.

Remember the wolf story below every time my thoughts turn nasty.

My Program:
I've been walking now for almost two years. I typically walk over 5 miles daily and have a goal of 12,000 steps/day with 10,000 of them being aerobic steps (or from sustained walking).
I go to the gym about three times a week (but not this month). I use an Onrom pedometer with upload capability to track my walking but I also track it here on Spark People. I always track my gym exercises on Spark People. I want to start doing more stretching and strength training exercises and I am going to look into that.

Personal Information:
I live in Suburban Philadelphia. I am the mother of four grown children. My oldest son served in the Air Force for six years and now lives near Seattle. My oldest daughter lives in the Bay Area and is working on her degree. My two youngest, a son and a daughter are in college. I have been separated from my husband for almost five years. I live at home with my mother and that is working out fine. Other than that, I need to lose more weight and try my best to stay as positive as possible.

Other Information:

One evening an old Cherokee told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people.
He said, "My son, the battle is between two wolves inside us all.

"One is Evil - It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.

"The other is Good - It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith."

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather: "Which wolf wins?"

The old Cherokee simply replied, "The one you feed."

    Thanks for the welcomes.

I've been working my way through the site but I still have a lot to view.

I am definitely an emotional overeater. The slightest bit of bad news sends me right to the kitchen. Years ago I ate chocolate chip cookie after chocolate chip cookie when I was upset. Recently I went through a sleeve of saltine crackers so while I chose a less fattening food with no nutritional value, I was still eating to calm myself and feel better.

I want to learn how to stop and think and not eat to feel better about things. I lost my job recently right after my last child went off to college so it's been another year of change for me. emoticon

Were you looking for a team where folks understand that you eat when you are happy, when you are sad, when you are lonely, when you are bored ... just name the emotion, you eat? Or maybe you just eat when you are stressed to the max? Or you binge eat in the evenings? Well, you have come to the right team when you joined the Emotional Eaters Team! You will find several of us that you will identify with right away. The team is a place where you can vent. And where you will receive some awesome support. Of course, I am biased ... its my favorite team at SparkPeople! I hope you find exactly what you are looking for! Welcome to the team!

    Eat well, journey well,
    Cathy emoticon
