I'm a 69 year old retired computer nerd who has struggled with his weight since he was 6 years old -- that's a long time! I've come to the realization that, if I don't get my weight under control soon, I'm going to end up like my mother and spend the last decades of my life confined to a chair (first it was her recliner, then it was a power-lift chair and finally a wheelchair). It's now or never folks!

Some of the photos in my gallery are from 5-6 years ago and show me at my heaviest -- 302 pounds. I went on a diet shortly after the ironing picture was taken and lost almost 100 pounds. Slowly, over the next 5 years, almost all of them came back. I'm hopeful that this time will be different. I'm ready to go to any lengths to succeed.

I had bariatric surgery in early 2010. I opted for adjustable gastric banding rather than a gastric bypass since they don't reroute my plumbing with the band. I've been using the recipe planner and nutrition tracker here to help me follow a healthy eating plan after the surgery. I purchased a Wii Fit Plus to start the long, slow journey to better fitness. I also joined a gym and began a program there.

I achieved my goals (weight under 200, waist under 40") by mid-2011 but drifted off course and regained 20 pounds. I'm back on track now and committed to staying focused.

My Goals:
My goal is to lose enough weight and improve my fitness enough to get off of most of my blood pressure and cholesterol/triglycerides medications. If I can do that, the next step is to start treating the damage done to my joints by years of obesity. I'd like to be able to go up and down a flight of stairs without pain or having to rest.

My Program:
1. Eat between 1500 and 2000 calories every day.
2. Consume no more than 200 grams of carbs, no more than 60 grams of fats, and at least 80 grams of protein.
3. Go to the gym 3 times a week for both cardio and circuit training. Use recumbent bike at home the other 4 days of the week.
