Growing up on a family farm built my character and values. However, it did not set me up for very healthy eating! My mom is and was wonderful; she was a stay at home mom for most of my growing up. From scratch, she made three meals a day. She is famous for her homemade bread and caramel rolls. We ate dessert most days...especially if there were hired men at the dinner table. Serving sizes were not exactly observed!

Unfortunatley, coupled with my history of overeating is the fact that I was never in sports in my school years. That is one of my biggest regrets for more than just fitness reasons.

Not until I was in college did I really become conscious of my eating habits and lack of exercise. I started both some healthy and unhealthy habits to lose weight. When I was married at age 22 I felt beautiful in my wedding dress--but not quite satisfied with my figure weighing about 162 pounds.

Five years later, I am now 177 pounds. I have lost a few pounds since giving birth to my daughter who is now two and a half years old. I feel (and look) like I have lost weight, but the number on the scale won't budge down.

I am a teacher, so with my summer time off I would like to get in to a great fitness routine before fall. When school starts again, my days will be long with an hour commute which will make it hard to fit in workouts. However, if I can get on the right track and get support from friends, I think I can get on the right track to lose weight throughout the year.

    Sorry I've been so delayed in responding, but you know life "it's fast, it's furious." Thanks for the admiring my dedication, it's been a challenge lately as my weight loss has really slowed. I'm reminding myself that it's slow because I'm so close to my goal and that's a good thing. That and focusing on the fact that despite the scale, it's the healthy habits I'm trying to make routine. Two miles is awesome! There isn't much more to going 3; pretty soon we'll be doing a 5K together. I've been relying on my elliptical more and more since it's still dark when I wake up. I sneak in a run after work occasionally if Zak or Corey are around to keep and eye on Ty. I completed the C25K program so have been running 3 miles each time. Now I'm starting the program over only increasing speed with each interval. Keeps it interesting.

    It was an adjustment to getting up in the dark again, but we've officially transitioned back to school. Ty's actually doing quite well. He still has issues listening to his teachers, but his teachers and counselors have noticed he is trying hard to control behaviors and has been showing improvement. Zak passed his written driver's exam and officially has his learners permit. He's taking behind the wheel right now and is looking forward to getting his farm permit. Scary thoughts....

    I think Corey's really wishing he wouldn't have agreed to this, but he also knows quitting would be a good thing. He is actually signed up for the MN Quit Cash contest where you quit smoking for the month of October and could win up $5,000. Chances are slim of winning, but he does like competition. Since the contest still allows aids, he's going to talk to the doctor about some of his options. So hopefully, he's on his way.

    Hola! How was your trip? I'm sure it was great! I've never been to Vegas, but it's on my list of places I'd like to visit. Corey and I are going to Washington in a couple weeks to spend sometime with Ryan and Jen. We are driving out there with Larry & Helen, but going sans kids. I'm not looking forward to the drive, but still looking forward to the get-away. If you know of any things that we should make sure to see when there, let me know.
