I live in a beautiful New England city, the one where I was born, in fact. I spent many years living in other places in the country - all in the north and all with overcast skies and lake effect snow.

During and post college I gained over 30 pounds and was told by my so-called friends that I wasn't pretty, hot enough, etc. I wasn't even considered "a girl" to many of them. I also had students who constantly told me how fat I was getting or how ugly I was. Neither of those circumstances were beneficial to my self-esteem.

What I did:
1.) I quit teaching. There were other factors involved with this decision, but I still think it may be the best decision I've ever made.
2.) I stopped associating with "my friends." I realized that they weren't really my friends if they made me feel ugly and worthless.
3.) I moved back to my hometown. Here I have many family members and old friends.

1.) After I quit teaching, I was much happier.

2.) After sopping contact with "my friends" I lost 15 lbs. on weight watchers.

3.) I've made new and wonderful friends. They support me and love me for who I am. I am a respected member of the theater community and people look to me for answers. I also reconnected with a wonderful friend (who is now one of my two best friends) and she and I did an experiment for our health - the Paleo Diet - in response to the movie "Super Size Me". Paleo *allegedly* fights and prevents many types of civilization diseases (heart disease, diabetes, MS, etc). I was not expecting to lose much weight, but after two months, I had lost 20 lbs - down to 127 lbs!
After stopping Paleo, I've maintained a weight in the low 130s, but recently it started creeping up to the high 130s. I was eating a lot of candy/chocoate and pizza. I did not want to see the #4 on my scale in the middle of a three digit number again, so back to paleo I went. I added regular weight lifting to my daily routine and started reading Women's Health and Self (instead of Cosmo or other fashion magazines).

I know this is not as dramatic as some stories out there, but it is still my story... and I'm stickin' to it!

February 28th 2011 was my new starting point.

After two weeks, I'd lost 4 pounds.
