Hello everyone! My name is Rachel and I am a college student in Louisiana (at least for the next four (counting down!) months). I am looking to lose weight and have a healthier lifestyle before graduation and a move for graduate studies.

I am really trying to create a program I can stick with. I have the knowledge and tools for losing weight, but I have always used a "diet" mentality and slowly but surely gained it back. While I am not huge by any means, I am short (5'3") so I need to weigh less than I do now to look and feel my best.

I love to exercise though I am terribly uncoordinated and lack athleticism. love yoga and love how my body is transformed by strength training but am working on doing more cardio to burn the fat. I aim for 3-4 hours of intense cardio a week in addition to 90 minutes of interval runs. Unfortunately I also eat like I am training for a marathon...really. I eat a lot and often, so I am finding the balance between quelling my hunger and not taking in more than I need.

So many people say they were driven to this point by not loving themselves enough and putting others first but that has never been the case for me -- if anything I love myself TOO much! I am constantly trying to find a balance between my natural selfishness and helping others, though once I am on your side I am loyal to a fault.

I can faux-get-along with anyone but I do not like many people. I am 100% left-brained and linguistic. I follow through. I see everything as black and white. I am terribly uncompetitive. I love fiercely. I dream big. I need lots of attention. That is hardly the whole of it but it will suffice.

To lose weight by lifestyle changes

To start Harvard's MTS program in Fall 2010

To find a maintenance plan and keep the weight off.

To crave healthy foods.

My Program:
1400-1700 calories each day

60 min. of vigorous cardio 6 days/week (Step, Stairmaster, etc).

30 min. easy exercise most days -- walking the dog, tap dancing.

Stretch after cardio!

Strength Training

10 fruits and vegetables a day

Protein at every meal/snack

    Another Monday is upon us and we are in the month of October. Where has the time gone? Another year is fast approaching; 2010; oh my goodness. Just think the holidays are fast approaching and my thoughts are how I will navigate through the festivities.

    Let me mention planning, we must plan. We should not be afraid of the holidays; we should be prepared for the holidays. Have you ever heard of the 5 P’s; (Prior Planning Prevents Poor Performance)? We must use this philosophy on our journey, the more we are prepared, the more we plan the better we can perform. So the message for the week is planning to be prepared. I find that when I plan ahead I have fewer bumps in the road, especially my meals. Besides, we are embarking upon a permanent lifestyle, we plan to live healthier and longer, so the holidays will continue to come and we will be ready!

    Remember, whatever happened last week, in is the past, you cannot undo it. So if it was a bad week, that week is gone, plan for a better week, speak it into existence, plan the upcoming week and prepare to do it over and over again. Learn the lesson that was there for you and help someone else along the way.

    Hope you and Yoda are having fun with your classes. How's are you two doing? How old is he?

    Well, I don't think they took apart the pants, and they left both pockets, so I think I was over-charged, but what can you do when you need something.

    It's raining today in Grand Cane. I'm bringing everything except the proverbial kitchen sink, so think I'll be prepared for the weather.

    Ugly shoes only because they looked comfortable. My foot is very hard to fit. I have worn them around the house and I think they'll be OK. One pair is light green and will go with the ($48) pants. First you have to remember things cost more out here, plus in addition to having the pants hemmed, they have to make them slimmer in the legs and have to take out both pockets and then put one pocket back. They're supposed to be ready tomorrow and hope they fit cause I need them by Mon evening.

    What's the weather looking like now? Are all the hotel rooms going to be taken by the art festival goers? Still haven't made any reservations, waiting to see if I'll be able to stay, comfortably at my daughter's.

    You mentioned getting together on the 18th, don't know about that. My daughter's birthday is the 19th. Do you have school/work all that week?

    So hope we can get together. Thanks, again, for all your help, encouragement and friendship.

    How's the obedience training coming. I think dog training is fun.

    Hahaha thats sooo funny that you said that. My friend that took it at my senior formal in our hotel room said the exact same thing as I was posing. My mom wanted to seea full length pic of me so that's why it's awkward like that lol. And I barely have any full length pics so I figured I would post that one lol. Glad it makes you smile =)
