Thanks for the heads up about the warrior race, I think the next one that comes to my area I'm totally going to do, looks like a lot of fun.

congrats on learning to run. if you want a great way to test your skills before your first real race check out the "dirty dash" or the" warrior dash" or even just google "mud run". it is super fun and involves costumes and mud and a ton of fun which distracts you from how far you are running. I'm doing my first one in two weeks. 10K is a distance i never imagined i would run but I am really looking forward to it.

WOW, your comment literally got me all misty-eyed. emoticon emoticon emoticon so much!

I really think that this website is a great place to start for all folks, whether they have three friends or thirty or one hundred, because we all get to have the same resources. We've all got the articles, the Spark Stages, the message boards... so whether we can talk about with "real life" friends or not, we know there's a big group of people out there who are facing the exact same things.

I used to be incredibly ashamed of trying to lose weight too (especially every time I was dating!). But the more weight I lost, and the more people noticed, the more I had to be able to talk about it. I've realized that not only do I not need to be ashamed, because my friends are proud of me, but that I'm also setting a great example for my students and family.

I guess the moral is, when you stick with this, it becomes more important to you, and you realize just how far you've come.

emoticon on reaching a new low weight! With your dedication, I know you'll reach that goal of 199, while gaining confidence and fitness with every ounce lost and step taken.

It's weird how different activites affect peoples bodies. I can ride my bike for 30 miles and be absolutely fine the next day, but I can barely run 2.5 miles. My sister can run for 5 miles, but would be miserable riding the same distance. It's all about what your muscles are used to, what your joints can handle, and what your balance is like. Just don't be afraid to keep working at it, you know? That's what I really have to get over with running, is being afraid that I'm "bad" at it.
