"Life is not a race, but a journey to be savored each step of the way."

I'm 41 years old, mother of one (born July '13) and currently reside in northeast Mississippi. Just like me, this page is a work in progress.

I've been overweight all my life. My grandmother said I came home from school one day around 7 years of age and decided my one cheese toast after-school snack was not enough. I wanted another. The weight gain has been steady ever since. I've lost weight over the years, but have never been able to keep it off. A few years ago I saw a picture of myself taken at a family member's wedding. I didn't recognize myself! How did this happen? And when?! I stepped on the scales and was astonished to find out that I weighed 263 lbs. I started to walk every day and got down to 209 lbs before I was derailed by a divorce and the outsourcing of my job.

I went into survival mode for a while. My next job was much more stressful than the last and after a while I noticed my clothes weren't fitting as well as they used to. I weighed myself and couldn't believe that I had reached 260 lbs again! A friend suggested Michael Thurmond's program. I quickly lost 20 lbs and started to feel healthier. I went on vacation and went off the program and the weight loss stopped.

I never did go back on the program completely, but it helped me to think about what I'm putting in my body. I started eating a version of Paleo by Mark Sisson referred to as "Primal" or "Primal Blueprint" (from his book). Basically, I try to eat real, whole food. Meat, veggies, and real butter, not margarine. I look forward to becoming fit and healthy for the first time in my life!

My Goals:
I've lost 62 lbs so far and will lose 56 more. More than a number on the scale, I just want to be healthy.

Run a 5k. (I have completed 5Ks in the past, but did a run/walk.)

Learn to do a handstand and some yoga moves that look impressive. I don't know the names. Haven't gotten that far yet.

Teach my daughter to have a healthy relationship with food.

My Program:
I'm trying to live a healthier life.

Real food. Meat, veggies, some fruit. No wheat. Don't count calories or fat.

Walking every day. Sprints once a week.

Strength training using body weight. Lunges and squats.

Personal Information:
Currently I am an IT professional, but given that my last 3 jobs have been outsourced I am considering a career change. To what, I don't know yet. Just taking classes and keeping an open mind.

I have 1 spoiled rotten male cat that I love dearly. I lost my 2 girls in July '08 and May '09.

I am single and a new mother.

Other Information:
I work every day. Go to church on Wednesday nights and on Sundays if I have the day off.

I love to read, but don't have much time for it lately. Currently reading The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle and Martha Beck's Follow Your Own North Star. (OK, I finished The Power of Now, but I am still working on Follow Your Own North Star. If I actually did the exercises and finished the book I might figure out what I want to be "when I grow up." LOL)

I love music, all kinds. R&B, country, rock. I can go from listening to Buckcherry to Anthony Hamilton to Waylon Jennings.
