    I think the most important advice I can give you about the knee is to gain muscle in the areas surrounding the knee. Women have a tendency to have weak quad muscles so all the strain is centered on the knee alone. If we build up the surrounding muscle then the knee will not be left to take the load all by itself. Before running 7 miles I had a tracking issue. I started building up the muscles with some good ole physical therapy exercises and was running with NO pain, but since then I have suffered a set back with possibly a torn meniscus; so back to the drawing board! GRRRR! Everytime I try lifting the free weights I re-injure it so I purchased a Leslie Sansone dvd that uses restrictive bands to build the legs. I used it and was thrilled with it. My doctor told me not to do the free weights (squats and lunges) because my knee just could not take it; so I am go slow. Build up those leg muscles and the knee pain will hopefully go away. Doctors are very quick to recommend surgery, but surgery is not always the answer. Prevention is always my first option and then if I have no other choice...Hope this helps! emoticon

    Your sense of self control is incredible! That's still one of the biggest things I need to work on! Its really fantastic to hear how you overcome it though, and I'm glad that you felt rewarded afterwards.
    Lately, I've been exercising but can really only go to the gym at the end of the day, and recently I've just been super tired after classes and work, but I just keep thinking about what you said, and NO LIE, its been the biggest sources inspiration. I'm keep telling myself, "I need to keep up with her, if she can do it, I can do it with her!"

    You're so right! My biggest problem was sticking to things, I get bored easily and would fall off the bandwagon time and time again, and finally (though lame) I had one of those moments where I was like, "ok, time to pull yourself together" Its a hard journey but thats what I love about this website, EVERYONE is supportive, I wish you the best of luck, and hopefully will be here to motivate you whenever you need it :)

    When I started running it was literally 30 seconds running at at time. Maybe walk 3-4 minutes and run again. I tried building up to 1 1/2 minutes. then 3 min walk, 3 min run.

    I also took some advice from a friend and listened to my iPod and ran a song walked a song. I was going to walk 1 and run2 one day but then it was the day I did a mile and a quarter.

    So many people say it's such a mental thing, I agree. I think so many don't think our bodies can handle something when in fact they can. I still struggle with it.

    I try to remember that marathon runners are out of breath at the end of race - so I shouldn't expect myself not to breath heavily.
