One year after my mom passed away on the weekend of the anniversary of her death my dad ended up in the hospital with health issues and eventually having a stroke. I spend the next several months doing what I did for my mom before she passed, committing all my time to be there for him. We eventually got him back home and doing very well but I still spend all my free time with him keeping him active and cognitively stimulated. I had been doing that for the past 4 years. Then l lost my job after 20 years with the company. The company I worked for downsized. Being a single girl with a house and other financial responsibilities, I didn't know what I was going to do. The company gave me a severance package and insurance for 6 months. I spent every day applying for jobs and doing everything I could to get work. Since I wasn't finding anything as quick as I had hoped I decided to get my right shoulder fixed since they were paying for my insurance. Then 6 months later had to have the other shoulder fixed for the same thing. Being layed up and unemployed took it's toll. I ended up gaining about 15 pounds. I finally found a job after a year of being unemployed. The first three months I focused on learning my new job and traveling for training. My nephew moved in with my dad so I was able to not have to worry about him. I still do the weekends so he can have a life. Then the day after Easter I broke my ankle and was in a cast (boot) for 4 months and then they did surgery. I was in the cast/boot for another 4 months. I gained another 20 pounds. I started a new assignment at work which has me working 10-12 hour days and be on call 24/7. This has not help me get back on track to get my ankle back or exercise. My nephew will only be living with my Dad until June and then he has a summer job that he goes to and lives there. So I need to get myself in a routine so when I go back to cooking and stuff for my dad I don't fall back into old habits. I am starting slow since not working out in over 2 years with small steps to start. Then with the weather starting to get nicer my plan is to ride my bike to work as often as possible and to get back into trying to run. I am planning in running a 5K in August so that will be my end goal.
