Happy and loving 55 year old mom of 5 married 32 years. I have always been careful about my nutrition but managed my weight since high school by teaching aerobics, running half marathons and drinking tons of water. I was always fighting the scale, gaining at the slightest deviation. I was only ever able to maintain by strict adherence to low calorie regime and, what I now consider, excessive exercise. Gained 25-30 pounds with each child, keeping 5 on with each. Kept on teaching aerobics til my fourth child then switched to 10ks and half marathon training. Had my last daughter at 40 when my world crashed down with the unexpected death of my sister, best friend and North Star. Taking anti depressants after that, I gained 20 pounds fairly quickly. Going back to work full time four years ago at a desk and I find myself 65-75 pounds over weight and rather discouraged. Did all the thyroid tests, yadda yadda and docs just conclude that I have a low end of normal thyroid but nothing treatable. So, after weight watchers, Jenny Craig, meal replacement shakes, Atkins, Wonderslim and all the rest, I have concluded that it is not what I eat but my exercise and activity level. I have to change my view of exercise. I have decided to start doing short spurts during the day at work, walking around the building, doing 5 minutes of up and down stairs etc. I am shooting for 4 times a day then working my way up to 8 times per day. Then picking a Netflix series and treadmill in comfortably each night for the 48 minutes it takes to watch an episode. I still belong to a gym and will use that to only do stuff I like like yoga, swimming and Pilates or Zumba class. I am hoping this will trick my metabolism into working a little harder for me. So, after much failure and self loathing.....I am moving ahead with loving who I am and taking new small steps for big changes. I think the tracking is very motivating so far. Even if no one ever sees this, I am empowered just by writing it. So here goes....one week down....a glorious lifetime of health to go!
