I originally joined SparkPeople with the goal of getting a hip replacement. I lost 37 lbs & am sitting here with a shiny new hip. Of course, now I need some new goals.

I graduated high school at 175 lbs & I can now see that was a perfectly fine weight for me. My body image was worse then than it is now. At some point I figured I was a fat chick no matter what so it didn't really matter how fat. Now I see myself as a worthwhile person regardless of size. I'll be me and I'll be happy no matter what the scale says, although my health and fashion sense will both appreciate some more weight loss.

Anyway, I began this journey because it was the only way to get my hip fixed. A Spark friend points out that it is indeed a journey--not a trip or a vacation. I just got the OK to put weight on my new hip and need to set new goals and get moving again. I'm open to suggestions!

My Goals:
I'm recovering from hip replacement surgery (6/14/11), I'm looking forward to being able to do things I enjoy that involve being on my feet again!

For now my goals are to heal well and take off the weight I re-gained post-op.

My Program:
Mostly I work on portion control, eating more fruits & veggies, more protein & iron, less fat & sodium. No food is "forbidden" there's no need to go crazy!

Exercise is whatever my Physical Therapist says for the time being. I need to re-learn to walk!

Personal Information:
I'm a medical social worker and recently passed my licensure exam (whew!). My 3 kids are mostly raised, my 2nd husband is the love of my life, and we have 2 cute little dogs to keep us entertained.

Other Information:
I like to read history, sci fi, non-fiction. I sew and crochet & recently became interested in loom knitting.

    thanks for your comment on my blog...I know that to graduate from swimming lessons will be an exceedingly proud moment for me....I've had two hip replacements (well, two sides, three surgeries...btw..FOLLOW HIP PRECAUTIONS RELIGIOUSLY!! I had three dislocations and had to have one hip redone.) Good luck with yours...! I'm not actually sure I'll be able to swim yet due to pain (my last surgery was in the end of March...but I'm having a bit of trouble with this one too...due to the fact that they had to lengthen my leg almost 2" to catch up to the other one...and those tendons are stretched TIGHT!!

    Congrats on being so close to your goal! You can lose the rest of the weight....just don't allow the inactivity and boredom following surgery to tempt you to do no exercise (whatever you are able...upper body and PT ) and to sit around and eat...It's a big temptation. I gained about 10 pounds back of the 60 I'd lost...but have lost that again now.
