I am truly the luckiest person in the world! I was recently given an opportunity to see how much my family and friends love me and support me. I was amazed and so touched by the experience, I really have to buckle down so I not only don't let myself down, but also I don't let down this amazing group of people. It was a once in a lifetime event that I will treasure forever. I only hope I can express my love and affection for each one of them as well.
When I had to lose weight in the past, I would write down everything I ate and calculate the calories. (This was pre-PC's) This was an effective method for me. While I have never been thin by most peoples' standards, I was at a healthy weight and BMI and happy with myself. (Didn't look too bad, either-LOL). Then, in May 07, I started gaining weight. There were several reasons for this. I quit smoking (it was actually months earlier), I was on prednisone, (that actually can attribute to weight gain), I worked full time and had no time or energy to exercise. Notice at no time did I say it was due to overeating. In Jan 08 I had to stop working due to COPD. Then, I "couldn't" exercise because I was on oxygen.
Well, I started pulmonary rehab at the end of March 08. That program teaches you how to exercise and how to make breathing easier. Even then, I still gained.
I was speaking with my son in Florida about losing weight and having trouble. He introduced me to SparkPeople. I finally joined at the end of June, 08. Now, I won't be winning any awards for the fastest weight loss. I hit plateaus and struggle at times, just like everyone. But I can count on encouragement from other members to keep me focused on the end results when that happens. I track my food and love the exercise demonstrations and videos and use them often. I am seeing results!
I have to thank my wonderful family and all the people at Spark for their good wishes and encouragement. Thank You!

Well, I'm starting the new year with new goals. My goal is to lose 5 pounds by Jan. 31 and weigh 184. My next goal will be to weigh 179 as my BMI will then be overweight as opposed to obese. Boy, will that feel good! At the end of January, I had some tests done at Columbia Presbyterian and I am still 5'6. Yay! I now weigh 183 and am no longer obese with a BMI of 29.4!!!

I feel I worked hard in January, and I had no weight loss. I can't say I was totally motivated for February. I just wanted a break, & I don't have time for that. So, for March, I'll start again. I have my own little mini-challenge going and hope to see good results. I will increase my cardio and pay better attention to eating. Keeping my fingers crossed.
I weighed in on 3/05 at 183-a 5 pound loss! Ate like there was no tomorrow the next day, but I'm ready to get back on track.

    Motivational Message:

If you want things to be different, perhaps the answer is to become different yourself.-- Norman Vincent Peale

We all have goals, but if we want them to come to fruition WE need to make changes ourselves. Think about what you want to become and then think about what you need to DO to make these things become a reality. It is within your reach!

    Have SPARKtastic Day!
