Sailor for thirty years. Shift worker at a satellite communications facility. Home vegetable/berry/herb gardener. May 2018 was my 34th wedding anniversary.

Fitness Minutes: 91,073

My Goals:
Steady progress on healthy chocies. I woke up in February 2013 at 200 pounds. Got down to 190 by April and got a FITBIT. FITBIT led me to SPARKPEOPLE which has increased my insight on what I need to get out of my food intake and what I need to add to my intake.
When I retired from the service in 2005 I weighed 150, however, in 2003 I had two stents and in 2004 I had a fasciotomy on my lower left leg and I went from leading PT 6 times a week to jogging once a month and then nothing ( I was a travelling instructor from 2005-2007 and went to the gym sometimes but normally, taught, corresponded with home office and ate out.)


My Program:
Exercise 90 minutes a week.

Eliminated those boxed, bagged or canned "meals" shift workers find so convenient.

Log and review my intake to make better choices.



Personal Information:
Born at Naval Air Station Jacksonville Fl and grew up in Maine, Maryland and Florida. Met and married Donna in Naples Italy. Two wonderful children. One is an Education Counselor who runs the 1st year cybersecurity students' program at OLD DOMINION UNIVERSITY. She and her husband have gifted us with three beautiful grand-kittens and live about a mile away. Our son B.S, Archaeology UVA works on digs in Jamestown and Connecticut since graduating this year and worked at Jefferson's Poplar Halls in Lynchburg. His current work at Jamestown's team revealed the original western brick wall of the Church where the original Virginia Burgess convened marking the first democratic government in the new world in 1619. Same year as the first African slaves were introduced to what is now the U.S.A.. On this 400th anniversary both events will be highlighted at Jamestown this year. Other Information:
I raise raspberries, blue berries, strawberries, sunchokes, asparagus, potatoes, onion, carrots, tomatoes, pole beans, peas, okra, eggplant, various squash, herbs. hot peppers. We also have a mulberry and a nectarine tree. The only thing I grow enough of to can is okra which I pickle. I planted an apple tree and two 5-fruit trees in 2016 and hope to see them flower and fruit one day. Two years ago I put in some apple trees and last year I put in a fig tree.

    Hello

    I saw your activity /update status and was wondering over what period of time you've gained the 7 pounds? Also, in looking at your Nutrition Tracker, are you NOT eating Dinner .... or you just didn't log that meal the past few days?

    And yes, sometimes the body will be cantankerous like that ~ you cut back on eating & it says, "whoa! this dude's trying to starve me so I better hang onto every calorie I can."

    I also see that you try to walk for fitness? Do you do any strength training? If not, I'd recommend that as muscle burns more fat & calories than cardio by itself.

    I was going to respond to the message board when I saw that others had already said what I would have said.

    I noticed your name & wondered if you taught chemistry ... then I came to your page & saw that you apparently were in the Navy! I'm ex*Army myself but thanks for keeping the seas safe!

    How romantic is a wedding in Italy? wowie kahzowie!! and your wife is lovely.

    From your post, I infer you're interested in keeping track of your nutrition ~ always a good step in a journey toward a healthier you.

    The only thing I'd recommend is to acquire some SparkFriends. Mine have consoled me when I'm down, kicked me in the butt (in a virtual sense) when I'm being whiny and congratulated me whenever I reach a goal.
