    Nina:

Well, here comes confession time. Over the past 3 weeks I have been on overload at work. During the last 3 weeks of the fall semester I have been working long hours with little to no time to do much Sparking. I minimized my time on postings and focused what time I had on eating right and getting my 30 minutes of exercise a day . . . well most days. Truthfully there were a few days that I failed to track my food and exercise, but tried not to let the demanding schedule to be an excuse to grab a meal at a fast food restaurant. Thanks to salads and healthy snack packs in my purse, I was able to survive without gaining weight. I called it my Project Zero campaign. I even lost 3 pounds . . . not tremendous success but a sign that I could survive.

I apologize that I have not been able to keep in touch with my Spark friends as much as I typically do but I hope you will understand and forgive me. It was a bit selfish to focus just on my own goals and fulfilling my obligations to the students in my 4 classes. I am still grading final exams and assignments, but the pressure is not as demanding. I have until Monday at noon to finish grades. Now I take a little time out to let you know that I have not fallen off the planet and I am still working to reach my lifestyle goals.

Here’s a little recipe for some Christmas Cheer: Don’t get your tinsel in a tangle this recipe is non-fat, and calorie free.

Start by reflecting on the reason for the season, then mix in a generous serving of good wishes, a heart full of love and armfuls of hugs for those that touch our lives all year long. Sprinkle with laughter and garnish with mistletoe. Top it off with a gift of yourself to those you love.

    Serves everyone!

Best Wishes for a wonderful holiday and great success in the coming year. Let’s get moving in 2009.

    Nina:

What are you doing to treat yourself this weekend? You deserve a bit of R&R so I hope you take sometime to relax with family or friends. How about a pedicure to reward your feet for all those wonderful steps you have been taking all week?

If you decide to dine out, remember all is not lost. If you do decide to dine out, one great way to cut your bill (and portion) in half is to split the entrée. Most restaurants have generously sized portions, so splitting it is easy. You won't feel that regretful dread of, "I can't believe I ate the whole thing," and you can share your meal with your sweetie or best friend. I often ask for a to-go container or bring a plastic container from home. As soon as the entrée arrives, I cut everything in half placing one half in the container. Then I have lunch for the next day. So don't feel deprived by skipping a few special occasions . . . just go with a strategy of how to live healthy everyday . . . even on the weekends.

    Have a wonderful weekend!
