Hi. I have to say I've been through a pretty tough year but it has been building to it and I just didn't realize that I wouldn't be able to keep going as I was. I have had chronic complicated migraines since I was 27. (now about to turn 51) These migraines aren't just headaches; they affect the entire left side of my body. Over the years I depended more on my right side and my left side was weaker and weaker. Chronic pain got worse and more frequent. (daily) It also made me overweight and out of shape since I didn't do anything except lay in bed. Fibromyalgia was soon part of the picture as well. :(
So finally it got so bad that I couldn't work any more. I was devastated when I had to leave my job as a Special Ed Teacher. There was no way I was going to accept this existence as my life! I was not about to collect disability and be in pain for the rest of my life if I could help it! I found a wonderful place called Portland Chiropractic Neurology. They work on the brain and the body and actually get to the root of the problem. So I got to work, going to appointments four to five days a week. I was out of work for five months a week.migraines. I have come a long way and am now back at work half time. I am still getting migraines though generally not as severe or long lasting. I continue to get support from Portland Chiropractic Neurology and follow the program they have outlined for me at home. I am now beginning to focus on losing weight and getting stronger.
I am also healing in another way. I finally got the courage and the strength and basically had the faith to leave my marriage of 4 years. It was four very painful years. I knew this was the other piece in my physical recovery that needed to be addressed. Our emotions do affect our body. It all works together. I say that I had faith because I am not making enough money to support myself yet so I had no idea how it was all going to work out. I have had to be humble and move in with my parents while I continue getting better and eventually work full time.
So, my fiftieth year was not a "fifty and fabulous" year but it was a year that I made decisions that put my life on the right track. I am proud of myself for not giving up at my lowest of lows. I am climbing out of the hole and seeing light!
