We are finally drying out here some but I hope it still rains once a week or so.

I wish they had found my G.I. issues sooner. It would have saved me a lot of grief. There are foods I like that I can't tolerate due to it. I spent years trying to eat things that are supposed to be good for us that I didn't like that were actually harmful to me. I'm fortunate in that most of the foods I like are good for me and most of the things I don't like aren't. I'm not sure if that happened by accident or if my body actually was rebelling. My G.I. issues are the best they have been in years. Of course I spent a couple of years having to take powerful macrobiotics with over 100 billion cultures to accomplish that but I have normal stools now most of the time. Sorry if that is TMI. LOL.

…a true, healing apology should include just seven words, I’m sorry I did this to you. That’s it! Bill Corbett

    Enjoyed your blog. Thanks.

If you recall I was a registered nurse and my mom was a nutritionist who didn't work in her field as she got married and had me so you would be wrong about my being on a bad vegetarian diet. My mother would have never allowed me to be on a bad diet of any kind. I wasn't on a vegetarian diet to save the planet, or for animal rights, or for religious reasons but because I found meat repulsive. I still find a lot of meat repulsive and am not in love with it. I'm not in love with kale either, to be honest. Treats were rare at our house - usually consumed outside of the home on special occasions and we didn't eat out much. I have never even tasted a milk shake in my entire life. In our home we had no soda, no Oreos, no cereal, no candy, no donuts, etc. I tasted my first cookie at my grandma's house. My aunt gave me my first piece of candy. We usually ate one small piece of lean meat, a small starch like potatoes/rice/pasta plus veggies. My parents always ate healthy and they never were overweight their entire life. I weighed 86 pounds when I was on a vegetarian diet in high school. I was an athlete and this diet was not enough to sustain my calories. I was never overweight until I was 46 after menopause and discovered fast food. Even though I was eating a healthy diet as a child and young adult I also had celiac disease and severe lactose intolerance and no one knew it. The reason it took so long to find out is that we didn't eat much gluten or dairy or even fruit. I ended up later with malabsorption. So I didn't do it all wrong but experts didn't know what they know now about food combining to make a whole protein. I would not been able to do that anyway. I like beans but I don't love beans and am not interested in living on them and rice is a blood sugar trigger for me. I can't eat pasta. I had vitamin k deficiency and had many other vitamin deficiencies as well, including B and D. Also mineral deficiencies . My clotting time was really long and I ended up bleeding and that is how it was discovered. I ended up in the hospital so I was thoroughly checked out by a specialist who stated that I was not cut out for a vegetarian diet. In order to be healthy again and not have to live on pills and shots, (I never intend to do that again), I have had to learn to eat a more balanced diet. Vegetarian and vegan are not for everyone as every good M.D. I've ever known will tell you. I am never going to be a vegetarian again. There is a diet for everyone and this one is not for me. I'm glad you found something that works for you finally. I was fortunate to find what works for me in 2006 and when I stick to it I am blessed. At any rate I never cheat enough to have bad labs any more. My a1c is perfect. My cardiac risk is low.
