I'm Maria and my goal is to lose 40 lbs in 2008. I have 4 dogs, so I will always have a walking/jogging companion. Hoping for success not only to lose the weight but to be healthier overall.

My Goals:
My main goal is to be healthier. Eat better and exercise more. I've decided to concentrate more on the good things that I'm going to eat, rather than fixating on what I can't eat. I see this more as a permanent change in lifestyle, not as a diet that I will stick to only to lose weight.

My Program:
This is my program: Eat 10 servings of fruit and veggies EVERY day. Drink 8-10 glasses of water EVERY day. Severely cut down on the salt. Eat at least 25-35 grams of fiber daily. Eat as little fat and sugar as humanly possible. Completely cut out all meat except fish and shellfish. I don't count calories, I just do the best I can.
I take an hour-long walk 3 times/week, and I try to hit the gym 2-3 times/week.

Personal Information:
My name is Maria, and I live in Northern California. I'm a firefighter, and when I hurt my back at work a few years ago I gained some weight when I couldn't work out like I usually did. I developed some bad eating habits, and here I am, working hard to drop about 40 lbs.

Other Information:
The one thing I love more than anything else is animals, especially dogs. I aspire to be the person my dogs think I am.

My favorite quote:

"He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog. You are his life, his leader. He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart. You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion."

Hi there and a belated WELCOME to SparkPeople and the SPClass of January 6-12, 2008!
There's a thread on the team page called POPULAR QUESTIONS where a LOT of questions have been posed and answered. Take the time to read through it as questions you have may have been answered on there - and you may find some questions you DIDN't know you had! Use this board for Q&A only as it is something of a chore to wade through if you're looking for a specific item. (And for me to have to find the most recent question to answer! LOL) Thanks for Understanding!
Participation can be a GREAT motivator! I encourage you to read the threads, post replies, start your own topic! Come by and Introduce yourself to everyone – this is a GREAT team of CARING people! Use the nutrition and fitness trackers so you can see your progress and your blog so you can review, later, how you felt on your journey. It will also help others to see your success!
We're the LARGEST TEAM in SparkPeople. I'm hoping that we will have the largest number of PARTICIPATING team members as well!
Good luck on your weight loss goal and your quest to a healthier lifestyle!

Sending encouragement, hugs, and best wishes on your weight loss journey. And most of all have patience during this trying time. I have to remind myself of that daily.

I'm Laceysa, and nice to meet you. How exciting it must be for you to lose 7.5lbs in 2 weeks. You're doing great! Congratulations. This means you've lost about 3.75 lbs each week. Keep that up and you'll be at your goal at no time.
