Hello! Thank you for stopping by my page. I've been dealing with weight issues my whole life, and chronic health conditions for a while. I find the solution, hard won lesson after decades of trying, is a daily battle, filled with healthy steps. Some days I fall, but I always pick myself back up.
* 2000 Diagnosed with TYPE 2 Diabetes. Gave birth to youngest son. Weight was 250lbs.
* 2004, had a total hip replacement. Doctor told me to lose 50 lbs. I ignored him. Weight was 250 lbs.
* for 2004-2011 years, I tried every diet trick in the book. Weight ballooned to 314. Ignored my diabetes, doctor put me on various oral meds. In 2008, my mom asked me to consider barriatric surgery.
* September 2011, I felt so awful, my sugars were out of control, my blood pressure was controlled by medication, my cholesterol was high, and all I wanted to do was sleep. I took 6 weeks off work to "deal with my health." I joined a gym, lost 20 pounds, started insulin, had a plan and went back to work. I investigated barriatric surgery, but insurance hoops were daunting, and I gave up before approval.
* 2012 I discovered Spark people. I stopped insulin, continued oral meds. I had some major life stress..
* 2013. I lost and re-gained the same weight. I discovered water aerobics.
* 2014- My weight stayed within the same 10 pounds. 312-293 this year. My sugars sky rocketed. I hoped to have better control. I discovered TAE CHI. I started therapy to deal with eating disorders. I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, glaucoma and Sojgreen's disease. Life is pretty stressful.
2015-.2016 My goal this year was simple. I resolved to eat within my calorie range, with a paleo lifestyle and exercise to a -500 calorie deficit 5 days a week. In looking back, I cheated way to often, and I gained and lost the same ten pounds, 293-285-300. Facing 2016, with two 1/2 years of my goal time, I am going to follow whole30 and attempt to tame my sugar dragon by giving up dairy. I am going to continue therapy, and join OA.
2016-2017, 2017. I mainly stayed with a paleo or whole thirty, flirty with keto for a while, but life got in the way, and I would lose focus. My job intensified, and I had to stop my out of town trips for therapy. OA group went by the wayside. I started my own business, selling Pampering products to improve self care. I started to investigate barriatric surgery. I was approved for surgery December 2017.

I now use Sparkpeople to record my journey, and to to find support along the way. I have a family that could improve their support style. I can get overwhelmed by the sheer number of pounds to lose until my goal weight, so I prefer to think of this as a daily journey to health. I stole a Sparkpeople quote that sums it up." When you break down goals into smaller steps, it isn't even that hard. All you have to do is say "yes" to the right things, one day at a time." Here is saying yes to health.

The Blue Print.
In 5 years, I want to be healthy, off medications and managing my chronic illness with nutrition and exercise. I want to be slender. I want to go to work each day with a healthy plan, and have habits that support that plan. I want to be a healthy empty-nester, with a focus on projects, I want to hike with my husband, go camping with ease. I want to increase my knowledge of nutrition, health and diabetes. In 10 years, I want to be working, filling my days with meaningful projects at work, while looking forward to retirement. I want to work part time for Irene or teach part time. When the weather is nice, I want to walk to work or bike to work, but leave the car in park. I want to look forward to getting up each day, following a healthy morning routine. I want to take my vitamins and supplements with lemon water, stretch and do yoga or TAE CHI and start the day off with a healthy start. I want to walk each morning with Cynthia. I want to pack my lunch, or snacks, and have a plan for the day. I want to take my walking shoes, as exercise is part of the plan. I want to carry my water bottle with me everywhere I go. Each day I want to focus on projects, wither that is social or POSH. I want to be fit enough to take fitness classes, and have the extra energy to do so. I want to spend a little time each day on the spiritual aspect, whether that is daily mass, adoration or private prayer. I want to be tired at the end of the day, so that I can sleep 8 hours without medication. I want to live a GOD centered, balanced life that is full of health. I want to be productive. I want to have energy. I want to be a modern day hippy. I want to be independent, able to take care of my needs without illness interfering. While I will continue to work at DCFS, I want to work part-time on health related counseling.
To accomplish this picture of health, I need to weigh a healthy BMI. Extra weight contributes to the chronic disease issues. I need to focus on good fats, vegetables and lean protein. I am adapting a Paleo lifestyle. No grains. No dairy. No processed foods. The Barriatric lifestyle is several small meals a day.
Revised 2/2014, 1/6/2018
To reiterate, my three goals, which helps in THE BIG GOAL OF Weight loss by my next birthday:
1) follow barriatric pre-op plan Pack my lunch/ snacks. Preplan Dinner.
2) 10,000 steps, after 3/16, when cleared for more, a minimum of 15 active fun cardio a day, like elliptical, water aerobics, and 10 minutes strength training, yoga or TAE CHI. Walk or Bike to work when weather permits.
3) Have a Posh life; be accountable to Spark, organize and clean, do something besides sit on the couch and become one with the furniture.

"Dear God, I recognize I am made for more than the vicious cycle of being ruled by food. I need to eat to live, not live to eat. So I keep asking for Your wisdom to know what to eat and Your indwelling presence to walk away from the things that are not beneficial for me."
