i'll be 55yo this month. have had a few health problems the past few years including high bp and cholesterol and have had to start taking medications. i would rather get off these meds. and live a more healthy lifestyle. i have 9 grandchildren so lots of motivation there.i have a thyroid problem for over 30 years and it was surgically removed 3 years ago. have tried many times to lose weight and never had any success. have decided to give it one more try.
update (05/27/10) it's been 4+1/2 months since i walked out of my dr.'s office realizing i was close to weighing in at 250 lbs. and decided i had to get serious about making a change. it was just a stroke of luck that i had recently been approved for soc.sec disability, and so was at home and really able to commit to sparkpeople. i have been using the nutrition tracker faithfully, weighing and logging all my food and water. now i've slowly increased my slow walking - gradually working up to an hour or hour and a half every day or two. it's still tough going due to my arthitis and i need to use my cane and take breaks to rest my joints , but my weight is starting to come down. my next dr.'s appointment will be in early june, so i hope he will also be pleasantly surprized at my progress!! this is so much easier for me then dealing with the stress of having to consider bariatric surgery. soon we should be moving to an area where there will be acess to a full gym and a heated swimming pool!! i' m anxious to move so i can start to get on track more with daily swimming and gentle workouts to tighten up my "wiggily-jiggilys" !! will update again in 3 or 4 more months...

My Program:
i ve taken a real good look at what i consume each day and have chosen to eat as healthy as possible since i had more problems with my arthitis affecting one of my ankles which is making my life more difficult and impacting my physical activity level that resulted in a gain... that took me up to 248 lbs...i started at that point to eat a lot of fish steamed -or baked with seasonings and a large amount of veggies--mostly greens steamed again w/seasonings.... weaned myself down to fat free milk..... gave up most sweets--when the urge hits i prepare sugar free puddding w/ff milk +that usually hits the spot..if not i drink more water... that seems to work for 2 months i have gone back to 227 - ---i m going to continue on this plan for a while and try to add in any physical activities my aching body allows me to accomplish i m still hopeing to see close to 125 - 130 some day which is appropriate for my height.
