Hmm. I was "lookin' great in 2008," and then I was "lookin' fine in 2009." But I still had so far to go! So I was "at it again in 2010." But it still wasn't enough to make strong progress toward my goals. So I vowed that 2011 would be my year. And again in 2012. So what exactly happened?? I'm going to hit my 5-year Sparkversary this summer, and while I've made some strides toward living a fitter, healthier lifestyle, I'm still far from reaching my goal. Yes, I know that if I'd have tried my hardest I'd obviously be much further along than I am now. But I'm not giving up!

Hi! My name is Sharon. Welcome to my page! I'm adjusting my mini-goals and still working on meeting my original goal of losing 62 pounds. I'm about halfway there right now, and once I accomplish that, I'm not sure how much further (if any) I'll need to go to look and feel my best.

Fitness Minutes: 83,343

My Goals:
Mini-Goals (According to my ticker) :

1. June 29: 30 pounds for the new month.

2. July 20: 33 pounds and a new dress for a wedding I'm attending.

3. Aug 31: 40 pounds to complete the 13-13-13 challenge.

Long-term Goals:

1. BMI out of "obese" and into "overweight"

2. Avoid Diabetes

3. NEVER miss a day logging in to SP or logging my food intake

My Program:
NUTRITION: I'm mainly focused on portion sizes, since I've always made it a point to eat the right things. I'm just learning that yes, there is such a thing as too much of a good thing! Logging all my intake is an incredible help in this area.

I have also cut way back on sweets with refined sugar (cookies, pop, candy, etc) in my diet.

Finally, I'm drinking 10 glasses of water per day, and striving for 7 hours of sleep per night.

EXERCISE: I do 30 minutes per day of cardio and balance exercise on the Wii Fit Plus. In addition I aim for another 30 minutes of daily cardio on the treadmill or with a fitness DVD, and I take a daily walk with my DH as often as I can talk him into it. I wear a Fitbit constantly and aim for a minimum of 10,000 daily steps. I also do strength training 3 times per week, concentrating on strengthening my bum shoulder, but also working with my resistance bands on other areas.

As my screen name indicates, I'm a huge baseball fan--especially the Twins. Other interests include reading, writing, scrapbooking, traveling, country music, and spending time with my husband of 28 years and our two adult kids. My 24-year-old son is a recently-married Marine stationed in Kaneohe Bay Hawaii, and my 27-year-old daughter has purchased her own home nearby. However, my elderly mom still lives with us, so the nest isn't quite empty yet. We also have an active border collie who keeps us hopping as well. My job was recently moved out of state, so I'm currently unemployed and working toward getting my home licensed for child care, something I used to do when my own kids were small and miss doing.

    Thanks for stopping by my blog. Now that my stepmother is in the hospital, life has calmed a bit for me. I still go down by my dad quite a bit. I know he's lonely but my stepsisters and I have been around -- someone every day. So far he hasn't had to eat dinner alone. I worry about him not eating and since he is a diabetic, that just won't work. I think he is adjusting to the new normal, slowly but surely.

    I hope you have a great day. I haven't heard much about the Twins this year. But, maybe that's just because I haven't paid much attention. I haven't heard much about the Brewers either.

    Thanks for your kind words on my blog. I know you know what it is like and, sometimes, what gets me through my time with my stepmother is knowing that others have been through this and survived (and thrived). I know I shouldn't take any of this personally but it can be difficult. It is especially difficult the second day when I am often functioning on less than three hours sleep. We have had someone at the house 24/7 (usually family) for about a month now but now we are to the point of needing two people at a time. Definitely time for the nursing home. She will cry that she wants to go home but she is currently doing that anyway. She is trying to run away more often to go home -- which is where she grew up in Pennsylvania -- and is very combative when we prevent it. Thankfully she has been quite fearful of going out after dark.

    You've had such an eventful year and I hope your health concerns are behind you. Good to see you back!!
