My time in Finland is over for now. I didn't lose any of the weight I had gained, but I didn't gain any additional weight. I'm now living in France, in a fourth floor walk-up, so exercise is mandatory. I need to work on serving sizes and what I eat. I have heard over and over that logging everything you eat is part of that...so here I go. My goal for now is to simply get into the habit of logging my food consumption. Here we go!

I've been in Finland now for almost a year. My activity level went WAY down over the winter, but the eating of junk food went up. :( I stepped on the scale and realized that I had left ONEderland. Time to get busy. My knee hasn't healed, and likely never will, so running is out of the question. So, before it gets really out of hand, time to lo-carb it again!

I have kept off a total loss of 107 pounds for over a year, but I'm still struggling with the last 30 or so pounds. I'm going to try the new Weight Watchers Simple Start plan in a week or so, as our work is doing the program here. I am doing Zumba (okay, I move around, but I tend to look rather spastic. Graceful I am not), and will start personal training once my knee heals.

Major update - 11.09.2014

Well since my last update a ton of things have happened. In March, I had surgery to repair my ruptured ACL and torn meniscus. At the time, I was told 6 months healing time.

Fast forward to the end of August, and my doctor tells me I can look at more like a year of healing.

I moved to Finland. Yes, that Finland.

I've put on 30 pounds, since my activity level went WAY down, but my eating stayed about the same.

Gotta get back on track.

Here's to a healthy new me by my 50th birthday in June 2014!

My Goals:
New goal: To tone and tighten, to eat healthy as a matter of choice, and to live my life to the fullest! I have another 35 pounds or so of the original to lose, but I think I will tackle that when the weather turns warmer.

Old goal: I have approximately 80 pounds to lose. I'd lost 60 pounds about two years ago due to portion control, but still had more to go. I want to eat healthier, and hopefully lose these 'saddlebags' over my hips.

My Program:
Newer Program 1/2014
Going to do the Weight Watchers at Work Simple Start program. Tell me what to eat! Tell me what to grocery shop for! Hold my hand! I am feeling good about this one. Just 30 more pounds to go! I can do it!

New program (4/1/13) Ideal Protein worked VERY well, but it is expensive. I am going to try a sort of modified Atkins. I am a firm believer that we eat far too many carbs, so I really want to cut back on those. Besides, I need to learn to eat on "real food". So, I am going to incorporate increased exercise with a low-carb eating program, to lose and then maintain my health.

Old program: I'm doing the Ideal Protein program, along with my sister, who lives in another state. So far, it's been working better than I had anticipated. It's also helping me confront my nemesis: vegetables. Check out my ongoing battle with finding ways to tolerate those things. :)

Personal Information:
I'm a 49 year old woman living on the Northshore in SE Louisiana. I have three beautiful daughters: 26 (and married), 20 and 18, a crazy dog, 2 crazy cats and four fish. I love to travel and am very fortunate to be able to go to Europe a couple of times a year.

Other Information:
I was athletic in high school, but in that way that girls in the late 70's were--I could keep up, but didn't do sports outside of school. As I grew older, I did less and less, and while I'm still relatively athletic, age and MS have slowed me down a bit.

I enjoy all kinds of books and movies - my favorite TV series are/were Firefly, Warehouse 13, Human Target, Leverage, Battlestar Galactica (the OLD one!), I.T. Crowd, Father Ted, and so on. I really enjoyed the Game of Thrones line of books, and enjoy watching the HBO series.

    Thanks for your comment on my Sparkpage, Michelle. Looks lime we have alot in common: MS in remission, 60 lb weight loss, sinilar ages (I'm 50).

    I've never been entirely sure how much credit to give my weight loss for my improved health, but, it's encouraging to read that your doc thonks it helped you.

    I was thrilled to learn that FB and SP are partners now! It's hard from a desk to get in the steps. I probably average a bit over 6k steps a day. And their customer service is second to none! Sundays are my day off -- I use that day to charge it up!

    I have trouble with running, given the MS. My right leg is so weak. But if there is ever a run/walk thing, let me know and I'll try to get with you for it! Your one in Austin sounded so amazing!!
