Next month we will have been an AZ for 3 years. I am still trying to become a successful gardener. Desert gardening is a 180 degree turn from the lush landscape and plants I have been familiar with. I have been guilty of planticide in trying to landscape my yard and garden.
We live at the base of Catalina mountains and I love looking at them in the different light and shadows during the day.
There are many species of animals that we see in our yard. Gamble quail, white wing doves, humming birds, rabbits, lizards, coyotes, the neighborhood bobcat, and rattlers.
We have had many challenges since we moved. Health, pool issues, house issues, money issues, deaths of family members
just to list a few broad categories. I believe better times are still ahead.
This was my post in 2016 I am updating my page as we moved from upstate NY to Tucson AZ. I am still unpacking and have yet to start back up finding a fitness center or exploring the facilities were we are renting. I will miss my team mates and friends in NYState. The information that follows was where I was and the wonderful support group that I left. I am competing as a team member with a great group of women. Our program is called Dare to Lose! There are some similarities to the biggest loser. We meet twice a week for 1 1/2 hours with our trainers, have challenges and weigh ins and are responsible for watching our food intake and exercising at least 2 more times a week. Each session is 8 weeks long so there is a mix of newcomers and those who have participated in earlier sessions. There is a lot of positive support from both the participants, trainers and other fitness center members. We are working hard at getting fit and losing weight.

Here I thought Hostas would grow anywhere. Won't they do will in Arizona. I don't even think the ones I separated even knew they were moved. I don't think one leaf wilted. They are all thriving. But then I did water them good, and now the last 2 days we got that blessed rain. Just softly falling so it is all soaking in.

Yes, I have decided this year to plant my tomatoes, and 55 plastic barrels cut in halves. No weeding, and the garden is just going to be sweet corn, and nothing else. Got lots of squash left over from last years crop, Maybe plant some lettuce seed in another container and that way I could have my own BLT's mostly from the garden. But Larry has to get his teeth first, right now with no upper teeth bacon is out of the question.

I don't know how to explain it, but our farm store has a lots of different sizes, it back by the rope and things. It's a nylon rope, I use the heavier cord for a lot of project, Even flower pot holders. I don't know if you ask at the craft store, or even at Walmart. Just ask for parachute rope.
