Updating this in Feb 2017. I was able to keep my goal weight pretty much in check until, in late 2013, I moved to a 55+ Community filled with wonderful people who quickly became friends. Unfortunately, after moving in I developed Plantar Fasccitis and was unable to do much in the way of walking. Combine that with all the socializing that folks here do, (translate that to activities that always seem to culminate in a meal!) and I ended up gaining about 30 pounds. I began walking 4 miles a day with a neighbor and it did absolutely nothing to reduce my weight! Very disheartening! I had stopped tracking my food and have since decided that it is essential for me to do that to make me accountable. I lost about 6 pounds before I resumed tracking, and with the start of Lent, I decided to get back on track. I am now down 12 of those 30 pounds and decided to update my stats to reflect reality.The plan now is to get down to 169 once again which is about 18 more pounds. Recently found out that I need my other knee replaced, so maybe with the additional weight loss I can put that off for a bit longer than if I were still carrying the extra weight.
I travel a LOT and plan to do even more when I retire. I've decided that the bulge around my middle has GOT to go. I know I will enjoy travel much more if I am healthier and slimmer. I don't want any health issues holding me back from enjoying my retirement...
And now that I have retired(yeah!!) and have met my goal weight (yeahX2!!) I need to continue maintaining my new weight and possibly re-evaluate my goal weight a bit lower. For now, I want to maintain what I have accomplished so my new eating patterns become ingrained and all those pants I had taken in will still fit me! (See above for a sad but hopeful update!)

My Goals:
I want to get down to 169 pounds by the time I retire in Feb. 2011. I started off with SP at 209. I'd previously lost about 20 pounds after I had my knee replaced in 2008.
I reached goal weight Feb. 4, 2011!

My Program:
Track my foods using the SP program.

Research recipes that are tasty as well as healthy.

Despite the fact that I HATE to exercise, I will follow the SP recommendations of exercises, but limit my time to 10 minutes a day till I gain motivation to increase the time.

When out with friends, I will try to maintain my sense of portion size.

Personal Information:
I live in North Carolina after having spent 30 years in Southern California. I came from Chicago so I have good food roots. That can be a blessing or a curse! I love to eat and cook and can read a cookbook like a novel!

Other Information:
I love to cook, read, garden and most of all travel. I have 2 cats and used to have Irish Wolfhounds, which really miss having but my little house, and virtually no yard, precludes that pleasure, so it's just me and the kitties!

    My husband wants to make our next trip to South America about the Amazon and the Galapagos, and he'd love to go back to Patagonia. We will probably do that in about 5 years. There are so many places to see and we really just started traveling extensively in the last 10 years, but more so since I retired a few years ago. Our next up is Alaska for 3 weeks (our first time there), and then in 2016 Spring we are going to do a long driving trip throughout the U.S. We are the same way, always planning our next trip. emoticon

    No, the ham was not too spicy.....BUT here are the changes I made because I cook for several people who do not like things very spicy.
    The mustard I used was dijon because I did not have any other.
    I cut the cayenne by half, and used 2 TBS rather than 3 of horseradish.
    I gave the recipe to my brother, and he did with with a spiral ham, and used all the spices as given. He said his whole family really liked it, not too sweet with a bit of "bam" at the end. I think I am glad I backed it back again. And I have all the leftover marinade after dinner that I used to cook with the ham bone for soup in a couple of weeks. Think the pea soup with that will be really good.

    My Sister-in-law has stepped up to the plate and she is driving her. My niece took her one day and I was able to take her today and tomorrow.

    They are moving my Father under Hospice care because he can no longer have rehab. Medicare has been cut off because he is no longer improving. He still seems to be doing okay, he was having fun today with a Nerf gun!
