Hi I'm Martha-Ann.
I WILL endeavour to reach the goal I've set myself.
I CAN do it.
I want to be healthier and eat better.
I've had a few health problems, still a couple left, but I've beaten cancer and now I'm just getting on with life.

I love SparkPeople.
It has everything I could ask for.
Good advice, great ideas but most of all friendship.
The people I've met through this site are wonderful and are helping me towards a better, healthier way of life.
THANKYOU.

This is a Sanskrit proverb by the fifth century poet Kalidasa, it seems to sum things up perfectly.

Salutation to the Dawn.

Listen to the Salutation of the Dawn!
Look to this day,
For it is life,
The very life of life.
In its brief course lie all
The realities and verities of existence.

The bliss of growth,
The splendour of action,
The glory of power...

For yesterday is but a dream,
And tomorrow is only a vision.
But today, well lived,
Makes every yesterday a dream of happiness,
And every tomorrow a vision of hope.

Look well, therefore, to this day.
Such is the salutation of the dawn!

My Goals:
I want to feel more confident about myself.

I want to be as fit and healthy as I can.

I want to live to see my grandchildren (and possibly their children) grow up and be healthy and fit enough to enjoy them.

I want to work on small goals of 10lbs and give myself a small reward everytime I hit one.

I want to see a 'new' me!!

My Program:
Daily exercising, going for long walks, gardening.

Eating healthily.
It is not a diet, it's a healthy eating programme.
It's a way of life and it's going to be MY way of life for the rest of MY life!

Personal Information:
I'm from Yorkshire, England...we call it 'God's Own Country'.

I live in a small village in the country but am only a few miles from the sea so I have the best of both worlds.

I'm 69 years young.

My DH and I have been happily married for 45 years.

I'm a wife, mother, grandma, nana, niece, cousin, aunt and great aunt.

I'm retired from primary education, l had to take early retirement due to illness and after a long struggle l'm now cancer free and back to being part of my community again.
I decided to lose weight and get healthy and am now working towards that goal.
l've been diagnosed with spondylolisthesis and spinal stenosis (arthritis of the spine) which is a bit of a challenge but l will conquer it.
l also have Morton's neuroma and together these three make walking and standing difficult but l persevere and don't let them totally wreck everything!

Other Information:
My hobbies are very varied, everything from puzzles to zentangles, reading to gardening, walking to birdwatching, writing to photography.
I love language too, the nuances and foibles, so I enjoy dabbling with writing and poetry...my son once called me a wordsmith...I wish I lived up to it!

I have another friend who lives in the UK. Sounds like a dreary winter. Sure hope the Sun comes out and stays that way! emoticon

Just stopping by to see how you are doing. It's been a while. Don't know where the days have gone.

We had a nice Easter at my daughter's home. Had planned to bbq but was a bit too windy. So just grilled the hotdogs in the oven and she fixed a wonderful potato salad (one of my weaknesses). Then we all played a game of Aggravation - and it was War for the start!! So much fun.

It is overcast and gloomy here today, but i do want to do a bit of weeding. Need to get started.

Am knitting a silk scarf for the daughter of a friend who is getting married in October. And, of course, always have a pair of socks on my needles. These will be for me for next winter - part wool as my feet are always cold.

Pray you and your husband are doing well!!
    Take care,

we have a bit of blue sky this morning - but more snow in the forecast. Will see!!

My blood pressure went up again so am back on BP meds. Still a bit higher than I would like, but I do feel better. And have lots more energy - now to put it to use!!

This afternoon will be meeting with knitting friends again. We do have such a good time. Such a fun group.

Hope you are having a good day.

Thank you for the explanation about Boxing Day - sounds like it could be a fun and special day. And a good way to help those in need.

We have a Warming Station here in Pendleton - a place for homeless to be inside overnight when it is freezing outside. They have moved to a larger location this past year so can accommodate more. And, more people are getting more involved - staying there overnight and donating needed items. My friend, Elaine, has volunteered for a number of years. Now she does not stay overnight there, but does the laundry during the day.

We warmed up a couple of days - but are below freezing again. No snow in the forecast - only cold.!!

You know how I do love flowers - well, a neighbor gave us an amaryllis this year. It is starting to show a bit of pink - so we will have flowers - well, one anyway! Am thinking that this year I will have flowers on my table more.

A HAPPY NEW YEAR to you and your family.
