I've been gaining weight gradually since I stopped schooling my horse 3 or 4 times a week. I kept at 135 for a year but gained 20 pounds in the past year. I got too heavy for my size 8 clothes, outgrew my size 10's and now I'm straining the seams of size 12. In fact I had 2 pairs of jeans split in the seat recently. I decided to get serious about losing weight. I already have a gym membership and go 2 or 3 times a week on my lunch hour because it's near work. I have a gym buddy from my office, but if she had to skip I used that as an excuse not to go myself. In addition to all that I recently read a health article that said it is impossible to execrcise enough to lose weight if you don't control what you eat as well. That makes sense, after 20minutes on the eliptical machine it only says I burned 190 calories, about equal to 2 slices of bread.
Looking for a calorie chart to start a food diary I stumbled uopn the Sparkpeople website and recognized the value of a supportive community and the tools to track my food and excercise. Lets do this together!

My Goals:
I'm trying to lose about25 pounds in the six months before I go on my next vacation. A friend and I are going to India with an Overseas Adventure Travel tour.
I mad it to my goal weight in time for my vacation, and inspite of three weeks of three times a dy buffets, did not gain any weight on vacation!

My Program:
I've been tracking my food choices and excercise. Doing this has given me the willpower to stop eating when I've had a reasonable amount even at buffets and church potluck suppers.

Personal Information:
I live in Eastern Massachusetts.

    Hi!
I just stopped on your page to say "HI" and welcome you to Spark. You're in the right place to reach your goals, but promise that you'll stop in every day and log your water, log your veggies and fruit, log your food, log your exercise, and read, and post, and log your water, and write on someone’s page, and read some more, and blog, and log your water, and LEARN that you are not alone, and we're all right here with you! Did I mention that you should log your water?

WHEW! Ok, I know you're overwhelmed getting to know this site, but use those buttons up there, especially the MY TRACKERS drop down list, and then either the START or MY SPARKPOINTS. Both of these helped me learn about the site, gain momentum and meet new friends.

Speaking of meeting new friends, this place is like a cocktail party. If you stand in the corner, you won't have as much fun. Make eye contact (or in this place, leave a message on someone's page, or add your opinion to the bazillion conversations going on) to say HI, and you'll meet new friends quick. Oh, yeah, WRITE A BLOG TOO! It’s the catchy title that brings folks to your page and you'll meet new friends even faster!

Stick around and come back every day! I was here, and left, and came back when I got serious, and I'm so glad I did. Don't procrastinate like I did, dig in now while you're here!
Coming here every day adds a great level of support and accountability. Explore, learn, and never be afraid to reach out for help. We're all in this together! Stop by at my page and introduce yourself around to some of my friends too! You'll be glad you did!

Doing it together, success is inevitable!
