Thank you for visiting my page. I have struggled with my weight for over 30 years. Like so many others, I seem to be fairly good at losing weight initially, but I give up and it all returns, plus more. All we can do is keep trying, though, right?

I llive in a San Diego suburb, have a husband and a 19 year old son and work full time. Sometimes I feel so overwhelmed with trying to manage everything that I just shut down. If there is one habit I'd like to "kick" more than any other, it is the tendency to make excuses not to exercise. I always feel better when I do it, so I really want to stick with it!

My Goals:
I would like to be healthier and feel better. I want to get and stay under 200 pounds once and for all. I actually do eat pretty healthy now, but I don't practice portion control at all. I also don't exercise. For now, I just aim to do something each day... even it is just a walk around the block, it will be more than I have been doing.

My Program:
I'm starting slowly, planning to follow a combined plan using elements of WW and the eating program recommended for me by Sparkpeople.

Personal Information:
I live in a small town north of San Diego. I work for a university in San Diego. I enjoy reading, blogging, word games and going to the beach. I'm a pretty good cook, too!

Other Information:
I have more favorite books than I can name. My all time favorite movie is Shawshank Redemption and I also really like As Good as It Gets and The Green Mile. I really like music from the 70s, in particular anything by Bruce Springsteen and Fleetwood Mac (including their more recent hits).

Thank you, Merle. It seems like we are learning more and more the dangers of processed food, so it wouldn't surprise me at all to learn it plays a role in depression. Plus, more and more organic products are becoming available now, so hopefully, I'll be able to incorporate more of them in my diet, too.

I just wanted to stop by and say hello. I saw you mentioned in your blog that you suffer from depression and since I turned 46-47, my depression had gotten worse. I have always had an underlying sadness, so my friends tell me, and have had periods of feeling down. But recently, it had gotten so much worse I didn't know what to do. I went to counseling for a while which helped a little, but she wanted me to take an anti-depressant and I don't take any meds unless I have to. I will tell you something that seems to have helped. It's only been about a month so I can't say it definitely works, but I do feel much better. I, like you, have always been trying to lose weight. I stumbled across a site similar to this one except it heavily promotes organic, whole foods and coconut oil, eliminating as much salt and sugar as you can, not worrying too much about fat as long as you are not eating processed food. I have to say that, not only did I lose 5 lbs in the first two weeks, but my mood has really improved. I feel really good. Now, like I said, it's only been about a month and my loss has stalled, but I only made minor changes and did not even follow it more than about 50%. It's a process going organic, so I will continue to incorporate more changes as I go along and I expect to lose more, but I am really pleased with how I feel right now. I feel like I'm in control for the first time and I can really do this. I realize that it's not just about losing weight, but putting good stuff into your body as much as you can and giving your body what it needs the majority of the time. I hope you find what works for you and that you feel better soon:)
