and again, and again. Since I posted this headline in 2008 have continued to gain gain gain. The picture as background was taken around that time, but inset you see what I look like now.

So in 10 years have taken a giant step back and am unhappy with who I am now.

As I approach 70 have arthritis - made worse by excess weight
little energy - thanks to excess weight
little enthusiasm for life and work - thanks to excess weight

Unfortunately, Spark People has not been enough and have added weight watchers to the mix. Am not thrilled with their system, but its a proven success. Unfortunately, have no meetings nearby and on line isn't enough. Signed up for personal coaching, at least for three months. Hopefully that will be the boost I need

Meanwhile the DH has his own issues and is so far refusing to accept his older body can't do what his younger brain wants; from activity to eating style. Am hoping to "guilt" him into supporting my diet - and help him at the same time. Certainly am not interested in making 6 meals a day, 3 is chore enough!

So if he doesn't like what I cook, he'll have to make his own!

Anyway, each decade I make the same vow to enter the next decade in better weight and health. and here I am again having failed at 50, and at 60. all things considered, I cannot fail for 70!!

I"m Candace from Sedona, AZ - also known as Morgaine in certain circles. Self-employed, gardener, and still living the hippie life-style - from my VW bus, to baking bread!! Oh my, long time since I wrote this! Am now Gluten Intolerant - no more baking bread!! and the VW Bus has been without an engine for 4 years!!! But the rest holds true!!

    Thank you for taking the time to write a really thought-provoking response to my blog, "Is This How It Ends?" The purpose of my writing the blog was to stimulate discussion and to make people think what it means literally and figuratively to have a high BMI. The stark graphic for some has been a wakeup call.

    Granted, you expanded on the theme as one should. The site is not meant to be scientific, nor is it, noting three issues and then plugging that into a formula to derive one's "death date". Physicians worth their salt will not merely take numbers and crunch them. Medicine, after all, is sometimes more Art than Science.

    Others on here have had your issue with Hashimoto's (1CrazyDog comes to mind immediately), and against the odds and her physicians' beliefs, she has beat it. So, once again, anything medical is not written in stone. And that is the take home in all this.

    If the blog encourages people to be more active, great. But as we know, weight loss is 80% diet, and 20% exercise. Not to belittle that 20% which, if for nothing more, gives us a wonderful rush.

    I appreciate you taking the time to respond to the blog in a well-thought out way.
