I'm a serial offender.
I come back every couple of years a couple of pounds heavier after having lost some weight while I stuck to the Sparkplan.
So. Now I'm 62 and I'm definitely chubby, especially the unwanted roll around my middle. I'm 5'5'' and 161 lbs which puts my BMI in the unhealthy range. I also have arthritis which is exacerbated by being overweight and I'm worried about losing my mobility. I've already had operations on both of my big toes and have a steel inserts meaning I can't move the big joint. I've just had the second arthroscopy to my left knee and am on the list for a replacement left hip.
I started my own business 5 years ago, which was really good fun at first, but just grew and grew until I had no time for anything except work. My Mum got dementia and came to live in a home near me last January, and any time I did have free was spent with her. She died in September.
I've just retired.
So now I have time for myself. I do still run a small property business to pay the bills but I have no excuse for not looking after myself better.
I also have time to visit my four lovely children who are all grown up, and my 2 beautiful granddaughters. I'm also playing music live again after many years, and singing in a choir. So Life is good.

Fitness Minutes: 39,236

My Goals:
Keep an eye on alcohol consumption. No more than 10 units a week.
Give up smoking again- done for 4 years!!.
Achieve target weight of 138 lbs.
Maintain Spark Program till I do!
Do strength exercises at least 3 times a week.
Investigate Spark exercises for people with arthritis.
Try turmeric in diet regularly to see if it helps.
Swim 2 x a week when I can.
Walk the dog 3 x daily

My Program:
So far, I find following the Spark programme set for me works as long as I stick to it.
Stick within my nutritional limits.
Do the recommended cardiovascular and strength exercises.
Be kind to myself, and be consistent.
I started running with Sparkpeople and began to enjoy it, but my knee and hip complained so I've had to stop. Now I have more time, I want to start swimming on a regular basis again as soon as I get the ok from the latest operation.

Personal Information:
I've recently retired from my main business running a big busy Swim School.

Other Information:
For the first time in my life I do have time to look after myself properly. It's up to me!!

    Congrats on becoming a granny. I think that is years away for me, but life can be full of surprises! I have to log into this site every day. It keeps me on track. I'm still maintaining and reading lots about nutrition. I also go to a gym 2 or 3 times a week. I have some really good Spark friends, but sadly some others seem to have left. I'm glad you set up a busy swim school. I remember you weren't appreciated in your last job. I hope you keep sparking. You will have to be fit to keep up with the new baby.

    PS: we are still in the same house. It is our daughter who has moved out! We spending our extra free time doing up the house in case we ever decide to sell it.
