In April of 2013, I chose to adopt a healthier lifestyle and within two years had met and exceeded my weight loss and fitness goals. Since then, maintenance has been an ongoing process that has required continued focus and effort. It hasn't been easy, but it has been so very worth it!

Now, in my fifth decade of life, I am more active than I have ever been and am excited to see what adventures the future will bring. I am fortunate to live in southern Wisconsin where the four seasons and varying terrain allow for a wide variety of outdoor activities.

I run, walk, bike, hike, backpack, kayak, swim, rock climb, snowshoe, cross-country ski, and as of this year, ice skate!! I am very, very fortunate to be surrounded by a husband and friends who inspire me every day to be an active, healthy, and better person.

My Goals:
Goal #1: Race a 5K. Done.
Goal #2: Run a 10K. Done.
Goal #3: Maintenance. In progress.


My Program:
My "simple" rules for a healthy diet:

1. Eat (mostly) unprocessed food.
2. Choose variety, variety, variety.
3. Eat when hungry.

My advice to anyone seeking to lose weight:

1. Do not engage in any weight loss "gimmick" that you are not willing to maintain for the rest of your life.
2. Increase your physical activity.
3. See "simple" rules above.

Your healthy weight will then find you.



Personal Information:
I have lived a life of variety. I have lived in different countries, states, and cities; I have attended seven different colleges or universities; I was a stay-at-home mom and have had two careers; and I have had numerous hobbies and interests.

Today, I am an empty nester making plans for a future that offers as much (or more) adventure than the past.

The constants in my life are my husband of 27 years and the need to be vigilant about my health.


Other Information:
The beautiful dog shown in the photos is a rescue named Bella, and she was my walking companion for 13 years. Sadly, we had to say goodbye to our beloved Bella in March, 2017. She was 17. RIP.

    Love the picture of your dog and reading that she is your walking buddy. So sad when they start to age and slow down. Good that you have found ways to stay active and get out and exercise. Believe me, it gets much harder when you are in your 60s/70s -- there may be the "will" to do active things, but the body just balks at anything too adventuresome or stressful or strenuous! Keep up your goals -- you are an inspiration to all of us! emoticon
