I have BED (Binge Eating Disorder) and became ill with CHD (Congestive Heart Disease) in October/November 2003. Until then I was a full-time carer for my only child Katie who died in 2004, aged 14, from CHF (congestive heart failure) caused by secondary pulmonary hypertention and a congenital heart defect.

My recovery was very slow and frustrating and I now have osteoarthritis in both my hips, lower back and knees which restricts my mobility, caused by a serious road accident in 1984 and years of being obese due to the BED.

My goal was to find a job working in IT, so I self-studied for and passed my CompTIA A+ exams in 2006. I then worked as an IT Volunteer at our local Hospice for just over a year and found a job as an ICT Technician in a local School... before my job was cut after 2 years from loss of funding due to Government austerity measures.

I had a gastric bypass in January 2009 after losing 86lbs to reach my pre-surgery target weight (BMI 50 or less). Due to health problems and depression I put 21 lbs back on while waiting but lost it again in the short run up to my surgery. During the operation my surgeon discovered that I had a very large hiatus hernia which was restricting my heart and lungs and was likely responsible for causing my otherwise unexplained CHD. I have had Bradycardia since the surgery and have also recently developed Atrial Fibrillation.

My weight plateaued after a fall caused my arthritis to flare up which prevented me from exercising, I became depressed and regained weight due to comfort eating. I also tripped and fractured my elbow back in July 14 2015 and now have post traumatic arthritis in that too. And then a couple of months later I got shingles... I'm beginning to think someone up there was seriously testing me!

I found a temporary job working for the NHS and passed my Level 3 AAT Diploma in Accounting in July 2016 and left the NHS in that September.

My current goal is to get my BMI below 40 so I can have a Total Hip Replacement. Beyond that any plans I have are on hold as I am undergoing counselling for my BED, which is long overdue, and an episode of severe depression .

My Goals:
My long-term goal is to lose enough weight to have a hip replacement and live a healthier lifestyle.

My Program:
I originally lost 188lbs between 2006 and 2010. Sadly due to further health problems and depression I put 106lbs back on. Now I need to get my BMI below 40 so I can have a Total Hip Replacement ASAP.

I struggle with exercise because of my disability but I will keep trying to build a regular routine.

Personal Information:
I live in the UK.

I trained in Martial Arts in my twenties and was a member of a Dark Age re-enactment society, riding my motorcycle to events around the UK. After a serious road accident I had to give up and have gradually developed severe osteoarthritis in my hips, lower back and knees.

My daughter died in 2004 and my sister the previous year, following a road accident. My father also died from a heart attack in 1991. My mother died shortly before Christmas 2013 leaving me as the eldest surviving member of my family.

Other Information:
I gained my BSc in 2000 and my AAT Level 3 Diploma in Accounting in 2016.
