I'm a 45 yr old SAHW and mother of two boys (ages 24 and 15). I live in Alexandria, VA. I'm a professional quilter and embroiderer. I work out of my home due to having health issues that prevent me from working "in the real world." I started my own quilting/embroidery business in 2005 and I specialize in memory and memorial quilts. It's been really hard to keep up with it but I'm trying to stay positive about it. I was diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome in 2001 and Fibromyalgia in 2002. In 2003 I was diagnosed with degenerative arthritis in my knees and it appears that I will be having them replaced later this year. I've also been diagnosed with Adult ADD hence my lack of "commitment" to ANTYHING - no focus! My weakness is falling into the routine of eating ALOT of comfort foods when I'm not feeling well. I'm just now getting into dealing with this issue. My friend Teanah suggested I join this group for support.

*UPDATE* 2/11/2010: WOW! I can't believe it's been 3 years...check out my blog for what's going on now in my life!

*UPDATE* 2/15/2010: Still haven't blogged yet...doesn't feel natural so will try again soon!

My Goals:
I want to live a healthier lifestyle because of my medical issues. I want to live to see my grandchildren have children of their own. I want to enjoy and experience live to the fullest!

My Program:
I'm going to work on lowering my sugar intake, minimize the amount of comfort foods I intake when feeling down, get medical assistance to deal with my anxiety/depression issues and find a new doctor that specializes in CFS/FM. I also want to complete my dental treatment plan so I'll have a nice smile for the world each and every day!

Personal Information:
I am currently living in Alexandria, VA but hope one day to move to a nice piece of property (preferably 20+ acres), somewhere near mountains, where you can experience ALL four seasons, and it's peaceful.

Other Information:
I love anything to do with quilting, embroidery, and sewing. I collect just about anything that has to do with butterflies as well as Precious Moments figurines and dolls. I love animals and hope to own a miniature long-haired dachshund one day (*Update: adopted a rescue doxie 1/2/2008!!)! I own (or I should say "I'm owned by..." - LOL) a pure breed Hymalian cat that is now 15 years old.

WOW! WOW! WOW!!!!! Your quilt in your background is awesome!!!!! I make quilts for the fun of sewing, but nothing compared to yours. When my projects lay for years unfinished, I use the excuse that I'm ADD. I'm not. Thank you for sharing. Gin

I wanted to pop round and formally welcome you to the Skinny Rennies group!

I had to ask, is the background on your page a photo of one of your quilts? It's beautiful. I quilt a bit, but am just not retentive enough for piecework so I usually go for easier patterns like log cabin or best of all crazy quilts.

Feel free to put in your .02 around the group - we love to hear from the new kids!

High there! In regards to your ADD, I was watching a show on PBS the other day during one of their fund drives and there was a lady on there who wrote a book and gives seminars and people called, 'scanners'. Look it up on the internet. I think ADD may SOMETIMES be a cop out diagnosis when doctor's don't know what else to call it. This woman talked about how scanners are interested in everything and while most of the world works by focusing on one task, these people don't and it is an ADVANTAGE to the and the world around them when they are not forced to conform. the president of jet blue is 'ADD'. there are many successful business people who have been 'diagnosed' as 'ADD' and are very successful. I too am a scanner and when I get bored with one project I put it down and go to the next and do a round robin kind of thing. Yes, it takes me longer to complete things but am I in a race? No.
I hope you don't mind me putting my .02 in and I do hope you'll look that lady up on the internet, wish I could remember her name.
