Looking forward with positive thoughts and the drive and ability to reach my goals! _In June of 2007 I weighed 203 lbs.Though this was not really my highest weight.During both of my pregnancies I had tipped the scales at around 240 lbs. My "normal" weight before each pregnancy had been 180 lbs, but after the birth of my second child, I just could not seem to get the extra pounds off. I remember looking at pictures of myself at 203 lbs, thinking and feeling completely disgusted with myself. How could I have let myself get to that point? At 41 years old, I felt like I was falling apart, and I knew that I had to get control of my life, my health, and my eating habits. _By January 2008, I had managed to get back down to 180 lbs on my own, through a lot of sacrifice and willpower, but I also knew that if I wanted to get beyond that point, I would need some help and support. That is when I first joined Sparkpeople. _Then in May of 2008, I had gotten down to 148 lbs before distaster struck. I recieved some devastating news that made me want to run and hide from everything and everyone. I fell into a deep depression and , once again I turned to food for comfort. _After about a month of gorging on everything in sight, that old disgusted feeling started to creep back. I had regained 32 lbs and was weighing in at 180 lbs. It was at this point that I started to reevaluate what I thought about myself and why I wanted to reach my goal weight. I decided that I really wanted to do this, and that I needed to do this for myself. A few things that I have learned... 1. OLD HABITS ARE HARD TO BREAK...BUT IT CAN BE DONE! When I was a child and cried, my mother would automatically offer me food to calm and soothe me, and it would work. Therefore, food became what I would turn to as comfort. Today, I have learned to turn to others for comfort and support. Talking about things instead of keeping them bottled up inside has become a much healthier release for me. Knowing you are not alone helps you to get past things and move forward. This was probably the most difficult thing for me to master, but I am definately getting better at it. 2. IT IS OKAY TO SAY "NO!" For so many years, I had let myself become the person who everyone else turned to when they needed something done, whether it was babysitting, lending money, making something, or whatever. There even became a point this last year when I felt as if my life was not my own anymore, and my time with my own family was suffering. I would often change my schedule just to please someone else. Then, one day, out of sheer exhaustion I think, I somehow managed to eek the word "no" out of my mouth, with a great amount of guilt, of At first, it even felt like I was telling a lie. But since that first time, it has gotten a lot easier. I still help out when I can and more importantly, when I want, but I (as well as others) needed to learn that my time is as important as anybody elses'. I have earned alot of self-respect from learning to do this. And while some people have gotten mad at me for refusing to grant their requests, I guess it really was a way for me to really find out who my true friends are. 3."ROME WAS NOT BUILT IN A DAY!" In the beginning of this weight-loss/ healthy lifestyle process, I wanted results and I wanted them fast! I was afraid that if I didn't see the number on the scale drop rapidly, that I would get discouraged and give up. I have learned that developing new thoughts and habits and changes take time, and instead of judging my success by a number, I look back on where I was and see how far I have come. Just sticking to my plan the best that I can on a day-to-day basis has helped me to stay focused and given me so much more self-confidence. And on those days when I slip, I just accept it and move forward-"On to tommorrow! A new day full of new and exciting opportunities!" And though there are many other things that I have learned, I feel it is very important to include this next one in writing: 4. BELIEVE THAT YOU WILL SUCCEED! For me, learning to visualize myself how I wanted to be was very important. At first, honestly, I felt somewhat silly and selfish doing this. (It was that taking time for myslf thing again! lol). But it has really helped to strengthen my personal convictions and ultimately has helped me to get to where I am today.-A much stronger and healthier person, both mentally and physically. And one final note: Never give up and quit trying. Eventually you WILL be successful! THERE IS ONLY ONE PERSON RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR HAPPINESS AND THAT IS YOURSELF! CHOOSE TO BE HAPPY!

My Goals:
Updated on May 12, 2009

My weight loss has been a long process, one of which has been mostly enjoyable. I need to stick to the healthy eating habits that I have acquired along the way. And I must not slack off on exercise. I know that for me this is the key to success.

My Program:
1. Eat a healthy menu, but not starve myself.

2. Move, move, move!

3. Cut back on eating out at places that don't offer healthy choices, or nutritional info.

Personal Information:
I was born and raised in Nova Scotia, Canada. When I was 19, I left home to come and live in the United States, and have lived here almost exclusively, except for 5 years when I lived in Brazil.
I am married to a wonderful man from Brazil, and together we have 2 beautiful children.
We are currently living in Texas.
