In December 2006, a month after my 36th birthday, I was diagnosed with Stage 0/I breast cancer. I was one of the lucky ones - I had only a unilateral mastectomy and did not need chemo or radiation. Despite this, the unknown was always fearful, but the journey that I experienced was really one that changed my life and the fears worked out just as they were meant to be. There were so many things I was blessed with during that journey that it really redefined my life.

This page is not about that journey, but about my next journey in life. I know it will redefine me and I think I'm finally ready for that. On so many levels I have been afraid to begin this journey because I'm unsure how it will change me. It's taken a lot of soul searching, praying, reading and discussions with myself and others to come to the point where I am now ready to embark on this journey and stop letting some people in my life tell me that I'm not worthy. I do not know what is up ahead, but I know that this, too, will have a profound impact on my life.

Through life, I have always been one to put others before myself. It wasn't until this year that I began standing up for myself and giving myself permission to do things for me.

Although I've come and gone from here quite a few times, this is my tool for getting this weight off. I have put on layers of protection to protect myself from my situation. This weight-loss journey is just the start of the journey that is the rest of my life. And I know with the help of SP and support from SparkFriends, this part of the journey will be much easier to get through!

I started this phase of my journey on April 15, 2014. My first big goal was to lose 26 lbs by June 30 and weigh in at 170. I made 25 pounds and was just 1 lb short of 170, but I'm so very proud of what I accomplished!

I am going to work hard to try to lose another 25 by the end of November. I want to finally have breast reconstruction this year, too, as it will mark 8 years since I was diagnosed with breast cancer.

Fast forward to early February 2015, it's my goal to be at my goal weight of 123 for a very special event that I've worked hard to achieve in my career.

Thank you for being here for me and supporting me.

Did you say it? "I love you. I don't ever want to live without you. You changed my life." Did you say it? Make a plan. Set a goal. Work toward it. But every now and then, look around...drink it in. 'cause this is it. It might all be gone tomorrow. - Grey's Anatomy
