My husband and I are committed to getting to a healthy weight and eating a nutrition diet of whole foods. I have been overweight for my whole life and it has always been a struggle. I gained at least 20-30 pounds in college and then the year I graduated from college my Mom died of ovarian cancer (1999). I gained another 20 pounds and was at my heaviest weight ever, 205 lbs (I'm 5'3".) In 2001, I joined a national weightloss program and learned to count what I ate and exercise and lost 50 pounds and made lifestyle changes which really helped. I kept most of it off for 4 years and then in 2005 I moved away from my family to Delaware for a job. It was one of the best moves I ever made. In 2006 I met (online) and started dating my husband John. We got married in 2007 and I was again at my lowest adult weight of 153 lbs. As newlyweds we loved being together and eating out together! I gained 40 pounds and he gained 30 lbs. We went to Disney World (where he proposed to me in 2007) in October of 2008 and when we got back and looked at our pictures, I knew I had to do something to lose weight because I did NOT like what I saw! I signed up on Sparkpeople for free and loved that I could enter everything I ate and it would tell me the calories and put in my recipes and calculate the calories and enter my workouts. I tracked for the whole year and tried to encourage my husband (which he saw as nagging :) ) I lost 20 pounds by July but gained 10 of it back by the end of the year. It was harder because John wasn't really trying to lose weight so we were still eating out a lot which did not help. At the end of 2009, John had an Epiphany and decided that he WAS going to lose weight and do it his way. So starting in 2010 we were both trying and it made things so much easier! We stopped eating out as much and bringing as much junk food home. He started strength training again with one of his friends and I worked out the gym at work. I lost 27 pounds in 2010, and John lost 52 pounds. In Jan 2011 I started the P90X workout (not the nutrition plan) and loved it! I got a lot more muscle tone and in better cardio shape. Then I did Insanity and loved that! I literally lost inches in places and went down a pant size. By the end of 2011 even though I was doing the workouts (a hybrid by then) I gained some weight back because I was not controlling what I was eating on the weekends and some weekdays. I only lost about 5 pounds even though I did drop a pant size. John lost 11.5 pounds in 2011. For Christmas 2011, John bought me P90X2 and I read the nutrition plan book and loved the idea of a 90 day Bootcamp. I had never thought about it that way before and loved the idea of committing to the strict nutrition plan for 90 days. I started the program Jan 9 and hurt a muscle in my neck/shoulder (recurring injury) during the first workout. I decided to stick to the nutrition plan because I had committed to it and went back to Insanity because my neck didn't hurt as much during the exercises (I couldn't do push-ups.) I the beginning of March I started P90X strength workouts and could do them without hurting my neck which is awesome so I hope to start the P90X2 workouts soon. People at work are asking me what I'm doing because I am losing weight on the nutrition plan!!! Today is day 74 and I have lost 14 pounds without being able to exercise some of those days or having to modify exercise a lot of those days. I love this nutrition plan because it is totally changing the way I think about food. I learned I can say no to eating cake at Baby showers (or any food there :)) I can live without diet soda. The best thing is that I plan it out ahead so I know exactly what I'm going to eat which makes it a lot easier and actually cheaper because I don't waste my money on what I might eat. Also clearing out all junk food from our house has helped my husband break his plateau and he's lost 17 pounds so far this year. Now people are asking me what I'm doing and the best part is that I now get to help others get fit too and that makes it all worth it!
