I am now up to needing to lose almost 100 pounds. I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis in 2013. Since then I have found that I am allergic to everything I've been prescribed--though it took a long time to figure it out.) I put on a lot of weight by being sedentary--as movement triggers problems in my intestines. But laying in bed the other night, I felt a strange flutter in my chest. Panic. Was it my heart? I'm a single mom, and my little boy is only 7. What if I die?

I braved the scale the next morning--257.2. 25 pounds more than I was a few months earlier. Steroids have not been kind. :( I have found myself short of breath going up a flight of stairs. I'm often so tired I just want to sleep.

I grew up with a father who treated my mom like she didn't deserve to be loved because she was overweight. I carried this into my own life. I married badly. I divorced shortly thereafter--taking my son with me. I struggle with feeling ugly, unwanted, alone.

I cannot do diets the way I have in the past, thus as salad is hard to eat I have avoided dieting. But that does not mean that I cannot still track my food and make better choices in what I do eat. I can get active--even if it is short walks in the beginning.

Your profile sounds familiar, I was a single mom for 10 years (I got re-married three years ago), and I know how hard and stressful it is. You are awesome to want to set a good example for your son, that’s what it’s all about. Best of luck to you!

I stumbled across you page and just wanted to say hi! I also wanted to let you know that even if you don't have a support team at home you have one here on SP. But it sounds like you little man is going to be one of your biggest supporters.
If you would like I would be willing to help support you. I too need all the support I can get. It's hard being a single mom, working and then trying to get healthy not only for you but for you child.
So I'm here if you would like that extra support. emoticon emoticon
