Here I am starting again, January 2018. My cholesterol is up. I'm determined to get it down through diet and exercise.

30 minutes aerobic a day, plus the dozen or so strengthening and stretching exercises that my physical therapy taught me to do for my scoliosis and degeneration in my spine.

I'm also cutting back on alcohol and following a lower carb version of the Mediterranean diet.

Wish me luck on my upteenth time of trying to get myself back in shape.

My Goals:
My new goal is to lower my cholesterol numbers without taking medication. I've given myself 6 weeks to get the numbers down (270 total right now).

In addition to eating healthy, whole foods without wheat or sugar, I am getting more exercise in my daily routine.

It worked before, it can work again!

My Program:
I'm cutting back on sugar, wheat and processed food, also I'm trying to work out at least an hour every morning. I'm cutting back on the alcohol too.

Personal Information:
I spend my best days wandering around the Illinois River Valley, photographing the wildlife that I see.

Other Information:
I love to read novels by Joyce Carol Oates, Virginia Woolf, Emily and Charlotte Bronte, Kurt Vonnegut, John Irving, John Updike, and many others. I'm currently reading Peyton Place by Grace Metalious and Mysteries of Winterthurn by Joyce Carol Oates.

I also love to research genealogy for both my family and my husband's.

    Reset Habits

Sometimes the best thing that can help is cutting out entire food groups for a time, to get rid of old habits and start new ones. This is similar to the idea of going “cold turkey” from junk food, but it’s a temporary measure that can help you become reacquainted with your body’s hunger cues, tastes, and needs. For example, go without sugar for a month and you’ll discover how sweet plain ol’ carrots are. Then try a piece of cake and balk at the sugar overload. There’s even research to suggest this alters your gut bacteria, which sends signals to your brain to keep loading up on the fresh stuff.

If you’re looking for a specific plan to help you reset habits, this one works wonders for shifting your focus onto nutrient-rich foods. Whatever you choose to go without (sweets or dairy, for instance) know that you’re not giving up these foods for life; you’re simply hitting the reset button and allowing yourself to tune in to what your body may be telling you.

We call these tricks “easy,” but we know they can be anything but. Find a partner to help encourage you on your journey to being free from overeating. And if you think you may have binge eating disorder, know that you are not alone. Support is just a click away.

Thanks for the massage! I started vacation today, I am off until the 18th so a massage is a great way to begin, even if it is virtual!
