I had incredible success using SparkPeople in 2009-2011: I changed my life, lost 100lbs, started running, and felt amazing!

In the almost 10 years since, several major life changes have knocked me out of the healthy routines I'd built for myself, and I'm ready to get my groove back! I'm hoping coming back to SparkPeople can help revive my motivation for self-care and healthy living.

Started back on SparkPeople.

OLD PROGRESS REPORTS

Highlights of 2012:

Ran the MLK 5K with Luke (his 1st!) in January 2012.
Jogged/Walked the Peachtree Road Race 10K with Luke (his 1st 10K!) in July 2012.
Gained permanent guardianship of Luke as of June 27, 2012.

Highlights of 2011:

Achieved 100 lbs lost on March 11, 2011!
Took on care of our 10 yr old nephew as of April 4, 2011.
Ran the St. Louis GO! Half-Marathon with several of my siblings on 4/9/2011.
Received another promotion at work in September.

Highlights of 2010:

Ran my first 5K in June.
Ran my first 10K on my 32nd birthday in July.
Ran my first Half-Marathon on October 3, 2010.
Reached 90 lbs. lost by end of year.
Bought my first pair of Size 12 pants EVER!
Bought my first bike & began occasionally cycling to work.
Planted my first container garden (with mixed results)
Received a promotion at work.

Highlights of 2009:
Joined SparkPeople in July, shortly after my 31st birthday.
Began the first consistent exercise regimen of my life.
Returned to Vegetarianism after a brief hiatus.
Weighed in below 200lbs for the first time since 8th grade.
Reached 40 lbs lost by end of year.

My Goals:
My goal is to re-claim the level of health I achieved with SparkPeople in 2009-2011, this time with more life experience under my belt.

Current Goals:
+ Lose 60 lbs, to hit a weight of 175, ideally before the end of the year.
+ Rebuild a fitness routine that is both fun and challenging for me.


My Program:
I am starting small:

Exercise 3 times a week, at least 20 minutes.

Maintain calories within SparkPeople's recommendations for my goals.

Reduce refined sugars & focus on whole foods.

Drink 8-10 cups of water per day.



Personal Information:
I live in Atlanta, GA, but originally hail from the midwest.

I am happily 40 and living on my own with my sweet cats Mac & Sam.

I've recently started a new job that is very demanding and has rekindled my passion and excitement about going to work each day.

I have a girlfriend who is also on a better-health journey alongside me, though she is using the Keto diet.

I love bird and butterfly watching, as well as reading and making art.

I believe in Universal Connection and Oneness.

If I could describe myself in one word, it would be "Enthusiastic."


Other Information:
I love to read! My favorite authors are Rainer Maria Rilke, Barbara Kingsolver, Jeannette Winterson, John Steinbeck and Maya Angelou. I am also a sucker for True Crime podcasts and documentaries.

    The flowers and blossoms are filling the air with the smells of Spring. This is the time to start preparing for the Summer. Are you ready to join a Challenge? The Biggest Loser Challenge is looking for members for it’s next Challenge starting the first week of June. The challenge consists of 11 Teams, that participate in 10 weeks of Nutritional and Fitness Challenges. These challenges can be modified to fit individual needs, allowing members of all abilities and dietary needs to participate.

    Here are some of the members comments written on a Survey Monkey poll:

    “It helps me stay focused on my goals. It also keeps things interesting and not boring.”

    “I find that the challenges make me be more cognizant of my food intake, better choices etc. The fitness ones encourage me to try new exercises and to keep doing exercises.
